Blankenship, Delauney lead Gettysburg past Bryn Mawr in CC action, 18-2

BRYN MAWR, Pa. - Julika Blankenship (Crumpton, MD/Kent County) collected six points while Kathy Delauney (Lutherville, MD/Roland Park Country School) scored four goals to help fourth-ranked Gettysburg defeat Bryn Mawr 18-2 in Centennial Conference (CC) women's lacrosse action on Tuesday.

Blankenship, who leads the Bullets with a program-record 43 assists this year, tallied three goals and three assists to become the sixth player in program history to record at least 80 points in a season. The junior is second on the team with 81points, behind Megan Murphy's (Wilton, CT/Wilton) program-record110. Delauney's four-goal, five-point outing was a career high in both categories.

With the win, the Bullets (14-1, 7-0 CC) clinched a spot in the conference playoffs and improved to 10-0 all-time against the Owls (4-10, 0-8 CC).

Jen Lam tallied Bryn Mawr's only goals while Claire Goldsmith recorded 11 saves in the losing effort.

Gettysburg exploded for 11 goals in the first half, including two goals apiece from Delauney, Blankenship, Kathryn Grassel (Dix Hills, NY/Half Hollows Hills East) and Amy Farrell (Ambler, PA/Upper Dublin).

Blankenship and Farrell gave the Bullets an early 2-0 lead, scoring just 54 seconds apart in the first two minutes of the game. Blankenship found the twine unassisted at 1:10 and fed Farrell at 2:04.

Lam got the Owls on the scoreboard at the 2:58 mark, but Gettysburg rattled off the next nine goals to go into intermission with an 11-1 advantage.

Katie Lowe (Setauket, NY/Ward Melville) scored a free position goal at 4:25, before Blankenship found the net on an assist from Murphy at 7:52 and then fed Grassel at 12:31 to make it 5-1.

Delauney and Farrell each scored twice in a span of 7 minutes, 18 seconds and Jacquie O'Connor (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) tallied an unassisted goal to cap the Bullets' 9-0 run.

Blankenship recorded her 80th point on an assist to Jen Bengel (Timonium, MD/Roland Park Country School) to open the second half scoring.

Gettysburg scored six of the next seven second-half markers, including the first collegiate goals from freshmen Dawn Mennen (Beach Haven, NJ/Shawnee) and Katie Oates (Port Washington, NY/Kellenberg Memorial).

Murphy added three assists while O'Connor and Jenn Kelly (Westbury, NY/Carle Place) tallied one goal and two assists apiece on the day. Ellie Shihadeh (Malvern, PA/Conestoga) also netted a goal in the win.

Murphy has now collected 254 career points, two shy of former teammate Becky Bucha (256 from 1999-2002) for second place on the program's all-time list. Colleen Dunn's 272 career points is the highest total in Gettysburg history.

The Bullets return to action on Thursday against Dickinson. Game time is 4:30 p.m.
