Villa Julie defeats Gettysburg in non-conference action, 8-4

GETTYSBURG, PA - Jim Whisman went the distance for Villa Julie to lead the Mustangs past Gettysburg 8-4 in non-conference baseball action on Friday.

Whisman allowed only four runs on 11 hits to help Villa Julie (12-17) sweep the season series against the Bullets (14-14-2).

Mike Luteran (Livingston, NJ/Livingston) went 4-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs for the Bullets in the losing effort.

The Mustangs used six back-to-back singles in the fifth inning to score three runs and take an early commanding 5-1 lead. Andrew Welling, who went 2-for-3 on the day singled in the first run of the inning and opened the door for an RBI single from Matt Waltrop.

Gettysburg threatened in the third when Chris Ferris (Scitute, MA/Boston College) hit a one-out triple to center and Luteran followed with a walk, but were only able salvage one run off of a sacrifice fly by Henry Mullen (Massapequa Park, NY/Massapequa).

The Bullets came within two runs of Villa Julie until the ninth inning when the Mustang's put up another three-run performance to seal the victory. After two walks to start the inning, Welling singled to left field to score Zach Moye and put the game out of reach.

Lee Jamison went 3-for-5 and scored a run for the Mustangs while Brandon Clark added two RBIs on a single up the middle in the second inning.

Nate Smith (Milford, NY/Cooperstown) added a two-hit performance including a double for Gettysburg.

Gettysburg returns to action on Saturday when they host the Shoremen of Washington in a Centennial Conference doubleheader. Game time is 1 p.m.
