GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Matt Donohue (Livingston, NJ/Livingston) pitched a three-hit shutout in the nightcap to lead Gettysburg past Washington (Md.) 1-0 in Centennial Conference (CC) baseball action on Saturday. The Shoremen took the first game, 1-0.

Donohue (4-2) went the distance, allowing three hits with six strikeouts for the Bullets' (15-15-2, 9-7-1 CC) first shutout of the year.

Patrick Flynn (New York, NY/Poly Prep Country) notched his first collegiate RBI while Justin Steele (Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Regional) went 1-for-3 and scored the game-winner.

Washington (2-23, 2-14 CC) hurler John Marshall (0-6) pitched six innings, giving up one run on five hits with three strikeouts in the losing effort.

In a pitcher's duel, Gettysburg finally got on the scoreboard in the fifth and held on to end a three game losing streak.

Steele led off the inning with single to left field. After Austin Ball (Farmingdale, NY/Hills East) singled to put runners on the corners, Flynn hit a slow roller to the shortstop for an RBI groundout.

With the Bullets leading 1-0, Donohue retired the final six hitters faced.

The Shoremen biggest threat came in the top of the fifth with two outs. Tyler Feane bunted his way on and Jay McEvoy singled before Marco Muscella popped out to Ball to end the inning.

Muscella, who delivered the game-winning hit in last year's 6-5 victory, was the hero for Washington's 1-0 win in game one. Muscella singled on an attempted suicide squeeze, plating the go-head run in the sixth.

Shawn Hampt, who picked up the Shoremen's only other win of the year, threw a two-hit shutout with six strikeouts for his second victory of the year.

In the decisive sixth, Paul Franklin doubled to left field to open the frame. Hampt helped his own cause with a bunt base hit before Muscella pushed a bunt to the right side to score Franklin with the game-winner.

Gettysburg put runners on first and second in the seventh after Ball singled and Nathan Smith (Milford, NY/Cooperstown) walked before Ron Lettieri (Hempstead, NY/South Side) grounded out to the first baseman to end the contest.

Tom Gallione (Demarest, NJ/Northern Valley) went the distance for the Bullets, allowing one run on five hits with three strikeouts.

Gettysburg returns to action on Monday at home against Elizabethtown. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
