CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Molly Gale (Franklin, MI/Wylie E. Groves) went 3-for-6 with a grand slam to help Gettysburg sweep a doubleheader from Washington, 9-0 and 6-2, in Centennial Conference (CC) softball action on Sunday.
With bases loaded, Gale hit her third collegiate home run in the top of the fourth inning to help the Bullets (23-7, 13-3 CC) close out game one in five innings. The sophomore also collected a career-high six RBIs and three runs scored on the afternoon.
Adrienne Simmons (Douglassville, PA/Daniel Boone) added a 5-for-7 performance with one RBI and three runs scored while Megan Pilarcik (Middletown, MD/Middletown) recorded five hits with two RBIs.
Margaret Hallahan (Huntingdon, PA/Huntingdon) posted three hits with two RBIs and one runs scored while Stef Mastropaolo (Rutherford, NJ/Rutherford) went 3-for-3 with one RBI and two runs scored in game two.
In game one, Gettysburg jumped out to an early lead and held the Shorewomen (14-16, 5-9 CC) to only one hit for its 10th shutout victory of the season.
Jackie Pareso (Washington, PA/Canevin Catholic) cranked out her third triple of the season to open the game and knock in Simmons, before Mastropaolo hit an RBI single to take a 2-0 lead.
Gale knocked in two runs on a double in the third inning, before Pilarcik's RBI single brought in Gale to make it 5-0 after the third inning.
In the top of the fourth, the squad loaded the bases with a single, error and fielder's choice to set up Gale's grand slam for the Bullets' final runs of the game.
Shannon Kiry (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) improved to 9-4 on the season while only giving up one hit in three innings of work, before being relieved by Lauren Bourne (Ogunquit, ME/Wells). Bourne pitched two-hitless innings and struck out one.
In the nightcap, Gettysburg led 3-0 after the first inning thanks to RBI singles from Mastropaolo, Pilarcik and Hallahan.
The Bullets extended their lead to 4-1 after three innings, before Washington scored their first run of the game in the bottom of the third.
Laura Scimeca singled, advanced to second on a pass ball and put the Shorewomen on the board on a Krista Dant single.
Gettysburg answered with another run in the fourth when Simmons doubled to bring in Katie Eiden (Silver Spring, MD/Georgetown Visitation [DC]).
Each team tallied a run in the seventh, but that is all the Bullets would allow to seal the victory, 6-2.
Bourne allowed four hits and one run in three innings of work to pick up her fourth victory of the season while Cjay Roughgarden (Stormville, NY/Carmel) came in fourth and struck out one in four innings.
Gettysburg returns to action on Wednesday for a doubleheader at Salisbury. Game one begins at 4 p.m.
