FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - Liz Feldhusen (Acton, MA/Acton-Boxborough Reg.) netted the game-winning goal to lead Gettysburg past Mary Washington 1-0 on the second day of the Mary Washington Classic.
Feldhusen, a junior co-captain scored her second game-winning goal of the season in the 35th minute. Katie Simmons (Altamont, NY/Guiderland) recorded her first shutout of the season and made one save for the Bullets (3-2).
Mary Elizabeth Fulco collected a game-high four saves for the Eagles (2-4-1) while Amy Kingsbury and Elise Fasick tallied two shots each.
The two squads battled for 34 minutes before Gettysburg capitalized on one of its six first half shots to hold on for the victory.
Feldhusen cut back the ball just outside the 18 before she knocked in her right-footed shot under the top panel from 25 yards out with 10 minutes 55 seconds left in the first half.
The Bullets tallied 13 shots on the day while the Gettysburg defense held Mary Washington to only six shots.
Maggie Cirrito (Garden City, NY/Garden City) had the opportunity to give the Bullets a 2-0 edge with 10 minutes left in the second half, but her left-footed shot curled left of the post.
Gettysburg returns to action on Saturday at Ursinus. Game time is TBA.
