YORK, Pa. – In its first actual dual match of the season, Gettysburg made a short trip to make short work of York winning 3-0.
Leading the way in the victory for the Bullets (7-5) was junior Jessica Cortese (Lancaster, PA/Hempfield) with 14 kills, six digs, and two block solos.
Carla Gray led the Spartans (9-5) with five kills and 16 digs.
Gettysburg cruised in the first game of the match winning by its largest margin in any of the three games, 30-18. York pulled a little closer in game two, but the Bullets were victorious, 30-20.
Game three was the best battle of the evening. The Spartans tried their hardest to force a fourth game, but Gettysburg was too much as the visitors took the game and the match with a 30-26 win.
Sophomore Shannan Smith (Milmont Park, PA/Ridley) assisted with the Bullets' victory contributing 25 set assists. Junior Nicole Barr (Annapolis, MD/Broadneck) worked both sides of the net adding six kills and seven digs, while freshman Hillary Prutzman (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) added strong serving and defense with six aces and four total blocks.
Caitlin McIntosh recorded 23 assists and eight digs for the hosts, while Kerry Casperson had five kills and 11 digs.
The Bullets return to action on Saturday at the Widener Classic. Gettysburg opens play with Ursinus at Noon and concludes pool play with Widener.
