Lebanon Valley defeats Gettysburg in season opener, 1-0

Box Score

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Kat Lamplugh netted the game-winning goal to lead Lebanon Valley past Gettysburg 1-0 in non-conference women's soccer action on Tuesday.

Lamplugh scored her first goal of the season to give the Flying Dutchmen (2-0) their second win in 2003.

Jess Conrad recorded three saves to earn her first shutout this year while Katie Simmons (Altamont, NY/Guilderland) tallied two saves for the Bullets (1-0).

Lebanon Valley grabbed the early 1-0 lead just 7:17 into the first half to hold off Gettysburg in their season opener.

A Flying Dutchmen cross from the left side went off Simmons hands before Lamplugh gathered the ball amongst a scramble in the goal mouth and put it in the back of the net for the lone goal.

Despite outshooting Lebanon Valley 10-5, the Bullets missed several opportunities in both the first and second half.

Maggie Cirrito's (Garden City, NJ/Garden City) one-touch shot from 12 yards out on a cross from freshman Steph Heath (Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood) found its way over the crossbar in the 30th minute.

A driving shot by Jenny Line (Carlisle, PA/Carlisle) in the 51st minute ended up in the arms of Conrad.

Not a minute later, Katie Altemose tried to give the Flying Dutchmen a 2-0 cushion when she had Simmons one-on-one, but her shot just missed the goal and hit the far post.

In the final minutes, Conrad made a huge save on Katie Myers (Randallstown, MD/Western Voc. Tech.) to seal the victory.

Gettysburg returns to action on Saturday against New York University at the William Smith Heron Cup. Game time is 2 p.m.
