HAVERFORD, Pa. - Junior David Pone
(Bordentown, NJ/Bordentown) tallied two goals to lead
Gettysburg past Haverford 4-1 in the Centennial Conference
(CC) opener for both teams on Saturday.
Pone scored back-to-back goals to help the
Bullets (3-2, 1-0 CC) to win their third straight game.
Chris Borcik (Reisterstown, MD/Franklin)
tallied his first goal of the season while Jeffrey Collmann
(Elverson, PA/Twin Valley) recorded his second assist.
Matt Rushton recorded the lone
goal for the Fords (3-2-1, 0-1 CC) Alex Armanda
collected four saves in the losing effort.
Gettysburg jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead
in the first half and never looked back to capture its first
conference victory of the season.
The Bullets got on the board in the sixth
minute when Haverford scored an own goal after trying to clear
the ball out.
Borcik and Collmann connected in the 20th
minute to give the Bullets a 2-0 lead.
Pone's goals came just seven minutes apart
in the second half. The junior scored his first goal of the
season in the 66th minute and then tallied his second goal
in the 73rd minute.
Gettysburg's hopes of a shutout ended when
Rushton scored with seven minutes remaining in the contest
off of a John Heacock corner kick.
The Bullets return to action on Tuesday at
Susquehanna. Game time is 4:30 p.m.
