SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Junior Maggie Cirrito (Garden City, NY/Garden City) scored a goal and tallied an assist to lead Gettysburg past Swarthmore 3-0 in Centennial Conference (CC) women's soccer action on Saturday.
Cirrito collected her first goal and assist of the season, including the game-winner in the 11th minute for the Bullets (5-3, 2-0 CC).
After leading the team in goals last season, Jenny Line (Carlisle, PA/Carlise) recorded her first goal of the year and Leah Hyde (Yardley, PA/Pennsbury) netted her second goal of the season.
Katie Simmons (Altamont, NY/Guilderland) posted six saves for her third shutout of the season while Catherine Salussolia collected six saves for the Garnet (5-4, 1-1 CC).
Gettysburg scored three unanswered goals to capture its fifth win of the season and remain undefeated in conference play.
Kristin Igusky's (Sinking Spring, PA/Holy Name) cross from the left side went through the Swarthmore defense and found Cirrito on the back post to knock the ball in the net for the Bullets first shot and goal of the day.
Line gave Gettysburg a 2-0 lead when her header went over Salussolia as she came out for the challenge on Cirrito's cross at the 62:58 mark.
Cirrito would have collected two goals on the day, but Salussolia deflected her right-footed shot and Hyde was there to put rebound in on a sliding shot in the 77th minute.
The Bullets finished three of their 17 shots, but had other scoring threats on the afternoon.
Hyde and Kat Poster (Scarsdale, NY/Scarsdale) each ripped a shot that hit the post in the 82nd and 86th minute, respectively.
The Garnet missed on several scoring opportunities, including the chances from three consecutive corner kicks in the 70th minute.
Simmons stopped Natalie Negrey's shot and last attempt for Swarthmore in the 72nd minute.
Gettysburg returns to action on Wednesday against Elizabethtown. Game time is 4:30 p.m.
