GETTYSBURG, Pa. – David Glaser (West
Chester, PA/Malvern Prep) scored a game-high 17 points
and Kyle Jakobe (Baltimore, MD/McDonogh/Peddie [NJ])
hit all four 3-point attempts to finish with 16 as Gettysburg
downed Muhlenberg 69-52 in Centennial Conference (CC) men’s
basketball action on Saturday.
Glaser tallied 12 of his 17 points in
the decisive first half, helping the Bullets (6-5, 2-2 CC)
post a victory in their first home game in more than a month.
Gettysburg’s last contest at Bream Gym was a 61-53 decision
over McDaniel on Dec. 6.
Jakobe swished all four 3-point attempts
on the afternoon, finishing 6-for-7 from the floor as the
Bullets took an early double-digit lead, then used a 22-6
run across both halves to lock up the win.
Chase Licata and Donte
Borden led the Mules (4-6, 2-2 CC) with seven points
apiece. Justin Fields added five points and
a game-high eight rebounds for Muhlenberg, which dropped its
fourth consecutive game at Gettysburg.
The teams battled to a 4-all tied in
the opening minutes before the Bullets went ahead to stay
with a 15-1 run that spanned 3 minutes, 5 seconds. Glaser
scored off a layup to start the run and Jakobe followed with
the first of his four 3-pointers. Kyle McGlensey (West
Chester, PA/East) converted a layup and Reggie
Davis (Longwood, FL/William Penn Charter [PA]) knocked
down a trey to make it 14-4 and force a Mule timeout.
A Borden free throw made it 14-5, but
Glaser hit a layup and nailed the first of his two 3-pointers
to push the lead to 19-5.
Muhlenberg fought back to within 24-18
on a Jimmy O’Brien layup with 7:04 left in the
half. Gettysburg, however, turned a 27-20 lead into a 15-point
halftime cushion with a 12-4 run over the final 3:43. Jakobe
closed the half with two more 3-pointers, giving the Bullets
a 39-24 edge.
After Tom Scott’s layup
in the opening minute, Glaser and Jakobe combined for 10 consecutive
points to build a 49-26 lead with 15:44 remaining and send
Gettysburg on its way to the team’s fourth win in five home
games this season. Matt Whelan’s (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield/Worcester
Acad. [MA]) layup with11:00 left gave the Bullets
their largest lead of the game at 61-35.
McGlensey finished with nine points,
four assists, three rebounds and three steals in his fourth
consecutive start. Davis also handed out a team-best four
assists in the win.
Gettysburg returns to action on Tuesday
at Washington (Md.). Game time is 8 p.m.
