Box Score
GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Two-time Centennial Conference
(CC) Player of the Year Katie Robinson scored
a game-high 25 points to lead Swarthmore past Gettysburg 60-44
in CC women’s basketball action on Saturday.
Robinson hit 10 of 18 shots from the
field while adding six rebounds and four steals to help the
Garnet (10-5, 5-3 CC) go 2-0 on the CC’s first-ever back-to-back
weekend of conference competition. Swarthmore downed Bryn
Mawr on Friday night, 77-39.
Ali Wolf also hit double-digits
with 12 points on the afternoon while teammate Zoey
Adams-Deutsch chipped in with seven points and a team-high
eight rebounds. The Garnet never trailed after the game’s
opening two minutes and held the Bullets (6-10, 3-6 CC) to
34-percent shooting and a season-low 44 points.
CC leading scorer Jen Bengel (Timonium,
MD/Roland Park Country School) paced Gettysburg with
17 points and 11 rebounds for her ninth double-double of the
season. Elizabeth Ross (Chestertown, MD/St. Andrew’s
[DE]) added 14 points and nine boards in the losing
effort.
Locked in a developing battle for a spot
in the CC postseason, Swarthmore kept pace thanks to a marquis
effort from its marquis player.
Robinson scored nine of her team’s first
15 points to stake the Garnet to a 15-6 lead in the game’s
first 6 minutes, 26 seconds.
Down 17-10, the Bullets used an 8-3 burst
to pull within 20-18. Ross scored four points during the run
and Bengel capped it with a layup at the 3:27 mark of the
first half.
It was as close as the home squad would
get. Swarthmore connected on 5 of 6 free throws over the next
minute before Wolf drained a three and hit a layup, keying
the Garnet’s 12-3 run to the end of the half that made it
32-21 at the break.
Gettysburg cut the deficit to single
digits on only one occasion after halftime, when Bengel scored
in close to make it 34-25 with 15:42 left. Robinson answered
with a jumper on Swarthmore’s next possession ahead of a 3-point
play by Jen Stevenson at the 13:35 mark.
A Stevenson 3-pointer gave the Garnet
its largest lead of the contest at 54-35 with 4:04 to play.
Stevenson finished with nine points and
five rebounds. The win was Swarthmore’s third in the last
five meetings with the Bullets.
Gettysburg returns to action on Saturday
at Bryn Mawr. Game time is 2 p.m.
