Gettysburg uses second-half run to subdue Dickinson, 78-56

Box Score

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – David Glaser (West Chester, PA/Malvern Prep) led four players in double figures with 20 points as Gettysburg shot a season-high 59 percent from the floor in a 78-56 victory over Dickinson in Centennial Conference (CC) men’s basketball action on Wednesday.

Dami Oloruntoba (Glenn Dale, MD/Eleanor Roosevelt) added 17 points and a career-high seven assists to help the Bullets (10-7, 6-4 CC) post their second three-game winning streak of the season while winning for the 11th time in 13 meetings with the Red Devils (3-14, 2-8 CC). Kyle McGlensey (West Chester, PA/East) and Todd Brady (Hancock, NH/ConVal) chipped in with 13 points apiece.

Brad Litchfield poured in a game-high 21 points for Dickinson, which dropped its sixth straight decision. Matt Keys added nine points, a game-high seven rebounds and five assists in the loss.

Paced by a balanced attack that hit 22 of 32 attempts from inside the 3-point line, Gettysburg jumped to an early advantage, then used a 25-6 second-half run to defeat one of its oldest rivals.

Oloruntoba scored seven points in the opening minutes to stake the Bullets to a 15-7 lead before the Red Devils rattled off eight straight points to knot the contest at 15. Following a 30-second timeout, Glaser drained a 3-pointer off an Oloruntoba assist and the home squad never trailed the rest of the way.

Keys pulled Dickinson within 20-17 on a jumper, but Brady nailed a trey to touch off a 10-2 run and extend the Gettysburg lead to 30-19 with 7:19 left in the half. An Oloruntoba 3-pointer made it 37-27, but Litchfield hit from 3-point range to start a 12-3 Red Devil run that reached into the opening minute of the second half and cut the deficit to a single point at 40-39.

A 25-6 Gettysburg spurt over the next seven minutes settled the game. Following another strategic timeout, Glaser, McGlensey and Oloruntoba converted layups before Matt Whelan (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield/Worcester Acad. [MA]) drained a 3-pointer for nine quick points and a 49-39 lead with 16:35 left.

Litchfield hit consecutive jumpers to keep Dickinson within striking distance at 55-45, but Glaser answered with seven straight points and Kyle Jakobe (Baltimore, MD/McDonogh/Peddie [NJ]) followed with a 3-pointer to make it 65-45 with 11:32 left.

A Chris Pombar (Glen Head, NY/North Shore) free throw gave the Bullets their largest lead of the night at 78-54 with 2:32 remaining.

With his 20-point night, Glaser moved within two points of Gettysburg’s all-time scoring top 20. The junior center closed the night with 930 career points.

The Bullets return to action on Saturday at Haverford. Game time is 4 p.m.
