GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Dana Bear (Lansdale,
PA/Lansdale Catholic), Kathryn Reilly (Ridgewood,
NJ/Ridgewood) and Emily Falk (Boiling Springs,
PA/Boiling Springs) all scored a team-high 12 points
to lead Gettysburg past Bryn Mawr 86-37 in Centennial Conference
(CC) women’s basketball action on Wednesday.
The trio hit for 29 of its combined 36
points on 13-for-17 shooting in the decisive first half, helping
the Bullets (4-8, 1-4 CC) build a 53-20 lead at the break
and post their first CC victory of the season.
Cat Arnold (Huntington, VT/Mt. Mansfield
Union) added a career-high 10 points while CC leading
scorer Jen Bengel (Timonium, MD/Roland Park Country
School) rounded out Gettysburg’s five double-digit
scorers with 10. The Bullet defense doubled its single-game
season high with 22 steals on the night, cashing in with 41
points off of 29 Owl turnovers.
Sarah Sniezek posted a
game-high 14 points while Amy Johnson added nine for Bryn
Mawr, which dropped its eighth straight game while falling
to 0-10 all-time against Gettysburg.
After Sniezek gave the Owls (1-8, 0-5
CC) their only lead at 3-2 with 1:34 elapsed, the Bullets
scored 28 of the game’s next 32 points to take command.
Bear drilled a 3-pointer to put the home
squad ahead to stay, then followed her trey with a jumper
to make it 7-3. Sniezek converted the second of two free throws
to pull the visitors within three, but Jamie Marshall
(Pottsville, PA/Nativity B.V.M.) hit a layup and Reilly
knocked down a pair of jumpers for a 13-4 Gettysburg advantage.
Amy Venditta answered with
a basket following Bryn Mawr’s second timeout, but Falk drilled
a 3-pointer and scored on the break to key a 17-0 burst that
made it 30-6 with 10:40 left in the first half. The
Bullets hit all eight shots during the run, including two
field goals apiece from Reilly and Amy Tarbell (East
Greenwich, RI/East Greenwich).
A Bengel layup pushed the lead to 47-16
with 3:22 remaining in the half and Hillary Prutzman’s
(Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) jumper with five seconds left
sent Gettysburg to the locker room with a 53-20 lead on 61-percent
first-half shooting.
The Bullets led by as many as 50 points
when Bear drilled a 3-pointer to make it 75-25 with 9:49 left.
Reilly’s 12-point outing was her fifth
double-digit scoring performance of the season and one point
shy of her career high. Prutzman finished with a career-high
seven points while fellow freshman Claudia Barston (Darien,
CT/Darien) scored four points in her collegiate debut.
Bear and Marshall each recorded a game-high five steals while
Bear and Arnold dished out a game-high four assists apiece.
JoAnn Gage chipped in with
eight points and a game-high eight rebounds for the Owls.
Gettysburg returns to action on Saturday
at home against Muhlenberg. Game time is 1 p.m.
