Gettysburg defeats Johns Hopkins, remains perfect in CC

Box Score

GETTYSBURG, Pa.Christina DiTucci (E. Rochester, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) scored the eventual game-winner and added an assist to help No. 20 Gettysburg defeat Johns Hopkins 3-1 in a battle for first place in the Centennial Conference (CC) on Wednesday.

With the win, the Bullets (9-2-2, 6-0 CC) remained perfect in conference play and extended their unbeaten streak to 11 games, their longest stretch in seven years. Gettysburg also snapped a three-game losing streak at home against the Blue Jays (10-3-1, 4-2 CC).

It took Katie Myers (Randallstown, MD/WSTES) fewer than two minutes to put the Bullets on the board, drilling the ball high into the right side of the net from 20 yards out off a pass from DiTucci. The assist was DiTucci's 11th of the season, putting her one away from tying Gettysburg's single season assist record set by Kristen Hull in 1994.

DiTucci netted the eventual game-winner on a penalty kick, placing it to the right John Hopkins' goalkeeper Jen Goebel at the 52:38 mark. Goebel was called for a foul in the box after colliding with the attacking Katie Ferraro (Westminster, CO/St. Mary's Academy), who was sent on goal by a pass from Jenny Line (Carlisle, PA/Carlisle).

Jessica McKenzie pulled the Blue Jays within one in the 68th minute, when her corner kick serve was defected off a Bullet defender and into the net, the first goal scored against Gettysburg in conference action this season.

Line sealed the win by scoring her third goal of this season off a pass from Steph Heath (Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood), at 76:12 slipping past Goebel and sliding the ball into an open net.

The Bullets defense held the Blue Jays to four shots, with Gettysburg took 12. Myers, Gettysburg's leading scorer with 10 goals, fired a team-high four shots.

Goebel finished with six saves in the losing effort.

The Bullets return to conference action on Saturday against Muhlenberg. Game time is 5:15 p.m. The dedication of Gettysburg's new soccer venue, Clark Field, preceded the contest at 4:30 p.m.
