GETTYSBURG,
Pa. Bridget
Seidel (Mohnton, PA/Governor
Mifflin) scored the only goal of the day to lift
No. 16 Gettysburg over Washington in Centennial Conference (CC) field
hockey action on Saturday.
The Bullets (9-3, 6-1 CC)
held the Shorewomen (6-7, 4-3
CC) to just two shots on the day, the fifth time this season
and third straight game the defense has held
a team to fewer than five shots.
Erin
OBrien made eight saves for Washington.
Laura Scimeca
and Katie Madron
had one shot apiece.
In the 12th
minute, Seidel rebounded her own
shot, converted on Gettysburgs
fourth of 12 total shots to give the Bullets a 1-0 advantage.
Gettysburg
controlled play throughout the remainder of the first half
and most of the second half, but could not find the backboard
for the insurance goal.
Meg
Goddu (Chadds Ford,
PA/Unionville)
had an opportunity in the first seven minutes of the contest,
breaking in all alone off a Shorewomen
corner. Goddu drew OBrien out of the cage, but pushed
her shot just right.
Katherine
Corkhill (Paoli, PA/Academy
of Notre Dame)
saved both of the shots she faced to pick her seventh shutout
of the season, one off the single-season of eight (Maggie
Tobin, 1994).
In addition to the 12-2
advantage in shots, the Bullets held a 12-3 edge in penalty
corners.
Gettysburg returns to action on Tuesday at home against
McDaniel. Game time is 4 p.m.
