Haverford hands Gettysburg first conference loss, 3-2

Box Score

HAVERFORD, Pa. – MeeJean Kim scored the game-winner to help No. 23 Haverford give 18th-ranked Gettysburg its first conference loss of the season, 3-2, in Centennial Conference (CC) women's soccer action on Saturday.

With the win, the Fords (13-1-2, 6-0-2 CC) picked up their first win against the Bullets since a 3-2 win in 1997 and snapped Gettysburg's (11-3-2, 8-1 CC) 13-game unbeaten streak that was one shy of the longest stretch in the program's history (14) set in 1993.

Katie Myers (Randallstown, MD/WSTES) netted the first of her two first-half goals at the 40:35 mark off a pass from Steph Heath (Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood), putting Gettysburg up 1-0.

Less than a minute later, Ryan Hedrick fired back after getting past a Bullet defender, knotting the score at 1-all.

Myers regained the lead for the Bullets with just over a minute remaining in the first half after firing one of her six shots from inside the box off a cross from Kat Poster (Scarsdale, NY/Scarsdale), giving Gettysburg a 2-1 halftime advantage.

In the 49th minute, Hedrick chipped the ball over a defender for a breakaway that set up Ashley Emmons who fired a shot past Bullet goalkeeper Allie Loeb (Bellemead, NJ/Montgomery), tying the score at 2-all.

Myers attempted to take over the lead again at 64:52, taking a shot from the close right wing that hit the crossbar. Gettysburg had two more scoring opportunities but Liz Feldhusen (Acton, MA/Acton-Boxborough Regional) fired a shot that sailed wide and Kelly Burke (Greenwood Village, CO/St. Mary's Academy) had a shot on goal grabbed by Haverford goalkeeper Andrea Fishman.

It was Haverford's Kim who claimed the lead for good, tapping the ball past Loeb off a cross from Emily Hurwitz at 75:08.

The Bullets outshot the Fords13-8, while both teams had two corner kick opportunities.

Loeb collected one save, while Fishman made five stops in the winning effort.

Despite the loss, Gettysburg stays at the top of the CC with a playoff spot clinched, while Haverford stays unbeaten in conference play.

The Bullets return to action Tuesday on the road against No. 8 TCNJ. Game time is 11:00 a.m.
