GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Senior Nicole Barr (Annapolis, MD/Broadneck) recorded 14 kills to lead Gettysburg to a sweep of visiting Ursinus in Centennial Conference (CC) volleyball action on Saturday.
On senior day for the Bullets (22-4, 9-0 CC), Jessica Cortese (Lancaster, PA/Hempfield) added nine kills and a team-high six digs to secure home-court advantage in the upcoming CC playoffs on Nov. 6-7.
Amanda Morello led an all-around defensive effort for the Bears (2-21, 0-9 CC) with 16 digs.
Leading 10-7, Cortese and Shannan Smith (Milmont Park, PA/Ridley) served 10 of the next 12 points to take a 20-9 lead en route to a 30-14 game-one victory.
In game two, Barr served four straight points to turn an 8-7 game into a 12-7 lead on the way to a 30-16 win.
In the third game clinging to a 16-13 advantage, Katie Potochney (Roselle, NJ/Roselle Catholic) took the serve to open up a 20-13 lead before Barr and Diana McNamee (King of Prussia, PA/Villa Maria Academy) served four and three points, respectively, for a 30-19 victory.
Smith added 31 assists and six digs in the victory. Erica Rau (Oakland Park, FL/Pine Crest) and Erin Barkdoll (Dover, PA/Dover) added five block assist apiece. Barr had a team-high three aces.
Erin O'Hara and Leah Rosin-Pritchard led the Bear attack with four kills apiece while Melissa George added 15 assists.
Gettysburg improved to 29-0 all-time against Ursinus and will look to wrap up its second-straight 10-0 record in CC play on Tuesday at Dickinson. Match time is 7 p.m.
