GETTYSBURG, Pa. Scott Morrow scored the game-winning
goal on a penalty kick to put McDaniel past Gettysburg 1-0 in Centennial Conference mens
soccer action on Wednesday.
Will Talesnick drew a foul on a Bullet defender in the box, setting Morrow up for the
penalty kick at the 77:01 mark. Marrow kicked the ball past
Gettysburg goalkeeper Nick
Wells-Bundtzen (Williamstown, MA/Mt. Greylock)
into the top-right corner of the net, giving the Green Terror
all they would need to claim the victory.
With
the win, McDaniel (9-5-3, 5-1-2 CC) maintained its hold
on second in the CC, while Gettysburg (8-7-1, 4-3-1 CC) drops to a tie
for fifth place with Muhlenberg.
The
Bullets outshot the Green Terror 16-3, but were unable to
convert on the opportunities. Freshman Pat Brown (Far Hills,
NJ/Ridge) had Gettysburgs best chances to score, firing
a team-high five shots.
His
first opportunity, and the Bullets best of the first
half, came in the 17th minute when his header
sailed wide and to the left.
Chris Borcik (Reisterstown,
MD/Franklin) opened the second half with a header that was saved
by McDaniel netminder Andrew
Wu, but most of the action in the Bullet attack
happened after the penalty kick.
Brown
fired another shot wide in the 79th minute that
was followed by two Mike Leader (Hershey, PA/Hershey)
headers that flew high and one that was blocked in the final
seconds of the game.
Wu
made five saves in the winning effort.
Gettysburg
returns to conference action on Saturday at Dickinson. Game
time is 2 p.m.
