Myers helps Gettysburg down Dickinson 1-0 to clinch home-field advantage for CC playoffs

Box Score

GETTYSBURG, Pa.Katie Myers (Randallstown, MD/WSTES) scored the game-winning goal to lead No. 25 Gettysburg past Dickinson in Centennial Conference (CC) women's soccer action on Friday.

With the win, the Bullets (12-4-2, 9-1 CC) maintain the top spot in the CC – clinching home-field advantage for the playoffs – while the Red Devils (8-9-1, 5-5 CC) just miss a playoff berth for the third time since the tournament began in 2001.

Gettysburg took control in the first half, outshooting Dickinson 8-3, but couldn't get past the Red Devil defense for a goal.

Jenny Line (Carlisle, PA/Carlisle) led the Gettysburg offensive attack, taking a game-high four shots. In the 24th minute, she fired a shot at Dickinson goalkeeper Alanna Schechtman who made her first save of the game.

The Bullets held the Red Devils shotless until the 37th minute, when Jessica Griggs sent a shot wide left. Less than a minute later, Lisa Nichols fired a shot that was saved by Gettysburg goalkeeper Kristin Short (Massapequa, NY/St. Anthony's).

The second half opened much like the first with both defense applying heavy pressure in the box. In the 50th minute, Steph Heath (Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch-Plains-Fanwood) chipped the ball over a Dickinson defender sending Line on goal that fired a shot that was saved by Schechtman.

At the 54:51 mark, Myers grabbed a cross from Line and drilled it past Schechtman, providing the Bullets with the only goal they would need.

In an attempt to add an insurance goal, Katie Ferraro (Westminster, CO/St. Mary's Academy) broke up the right side of the field and crossed the ball to Myers right of the goal. Myers then sent the ball to Line directly in front of the goal, who fired a shot that Schectman had to jump to save.

Gettysburg outshot Dickinson 14-5, and had a 5-0 corner kick advantage.

Myers finished with two saves, while Schechtman tallied six saves in the losing effort.

Line has been a part of the scoring against Dickinson in two of their past three match-ups. In 2001, she scored two goals and provided an assist and in 2002 she netted the Bullets' only two goals in a 2-1 victory over the Red Devils.

The Bullets will host the CC semi-finals at Clark Field next weekend.
