CARLISLE,
Pa. – David Pone (Bordentown, NJ/Bordentown) scored the game-winning
goal to lead Gettysburg past Dickinson in Centennial Conference (CC) men’s soccer
action on Saturday. Despite the win,
the Bullets (9-7-1, 5-3-1) finished out of the CC playoffs, due to victories by
Muhlenberg and Swarthmore on Saturday. Gettysburg finished in a fourth-place tie
with Franklin & Marshall and Muhlenberg, but were eliminated from the five-team
postseason due to tie-breaking procedures.
Thom
Rosamilia put the Red Devils (7-10-1, 3-6 CC) on the board 10 minutes
into the first half off a scramble in front of the net.
Michael Garea (Maplewood, NJ/Columbia) fired back,
tying the score at 1 with a goal in the 25th minute, Garea’s second of the season.
In the 35th minute, Pone put Gettysburg on top for good,
firing his third goal of the season past Dickinson goalkeeper Aaron Stemplewicz
into the corner of the net.
Stemplewicz
finished with a game-high 11 saves, while Nick Wells-Bundtzen (Williamstown,
MA/Mt. Greylock) made seven stops for the Bullets.
Gettysburg out-shot Dickinson 13-8 on the afternoon, while the
Red Devils had a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.
