Box Score

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – It came down to the final minute, but junior Eileene Keever tallied the game-winning goal to lift No. 7 Franklin & Marshall to a 2-1 victory over 17th-ranked Gettysburg in Centennial Conference (CC) field hockey action on Wednesday.

Meg Goddu (Chadds Ford, PA/Camp Hill) scored lone goal for the Bullets (6-3, 3-1 CC), who fell to 0-3 against ranked opponents in 2004. Katherine Corkhill (Paoli, PA/Academy of Notre Dame) made three saves in goal.

Lindsey Mummert also found the backboard for the Diplomats (6-3, 3-1 CC) while Michelle Altman made nine stops in goal.

On Franklin & Marshall’s eighth penalty corner of the day, Keever redirected a pass in from Lindsay Mohr with 36 seconds remaining to break a 1-all deadlock and create a four-way tie for second place in the conference standings.

With momentum shifted heavily its way by the 56th minute, Gettysburg finally capitalized for the equalizer. On a restart, Becky Latta (West Chester, PA/Henderson) sent a ball in from the top of the arc that Goddu just got a stick on and past Altman to make it 1-1.

After an evenly played first 25 minutes, the Diplomats cracked the scoreboard at the 26:14 mark when Mummert redirected a Stacy Swymelar hit behind the defense an in the cage.

Within three minutes of scoring their goal, the Bullets carried play and looked to take the lead, but Lindsay Mohr made a defensive save on a Katie Lowe (Setauket, NY/Ward Melville) shot to keep it a 1-1 game.

Gettysburg finished with a 13-6 advantage in shots and held a 14-8 edge in penalty corners.

The Bullets return to action on Friday at Bryn Mawr. Game time is 4:30 p.m.
