Gettysburg keeps rolling in CC with sweep of Washington

GETTYSBURG, Pa.Jessica Cortese (Lancaster, PA/Hempfield) recorded nine kills and a team-high eight digs to lead Gettysburg to a 3-0 win over Washington in Centennial Conference (CC) volleyball action on Saturday.

The Bullets (17-2, 6-0 CC) used decisive runs in each game to overcome deficits and record their 15th straight victory, winning 30-22, 30-21, 30-19.

Marci McConville notched seven kills to lead the Shorewomen (12-10, 1-3 CC), who dropped their 27th consecutive meeting in the 28-match all-time series.

Hillary Prutzman (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) joined Cortese with a team-high nine kills, including a perfect 7-for-7 in attack attempts in game three. Shannan Smith (Milmont Park, PA/Ridley) put up 27 assists in the first two games while Margaret Hallahan (Huntingdon, PA/Huntingdon) added 13 in the third game.

Washington jumped out to a 13-9 lead in game one before Gettysburg got a side-out and Smith served six straight points, including all three of her aces, to give the Bullets a 16-13 lead en route to the 30-22 victory.

In game two, the Shorewomen were clinging to a 5-3 advantage before a 5-1 run fueled by a Prutzman kill and solo block – Gettysburg's lone of the match – gave the hosts an 8-6 lead.

Washington kept it close at 13-11, but the Bullets registered eight of the next nine points to take a 21-12 lead. During the run, Diana McNamee (King of Prussia, PA/Villa Maria Academy) served a pair of aces to give Gettysburg the momentum it needed for the 30-21 victory.

In the third game, the Bullets run came with the score knotted at 9-all. A side-out and three straight service points from Hallahan gave Gettysburg a 13-9 lead.

Kills by Katie Heffner (Easton, PA/Easton) on three of four points extended the Bullet lead to as high as 25-15 down the stretch before the 30-19 win.

Cortese added a team-high four aces. Steph Vial (Hanover, PA/Delone Catholic) added seven digs while Prutzman and Heffner notched a team-high three total blocks.

Gettysburg held the Shorewomen, who lead the CC with 3.17 blocks per game, to no blocks on the afternoon.

Laura Shand added seven digs and 24 assists for the Shorewomen.

The Bullets returns to action on Tuesday at Muhlenberg. Match time is 7 p.m.
