Record-breaking win over Chestnut Hill sends Gettysburg to NCAA tournament second round

Box Score

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Katie Myers (Randallstown, MD/WSTES) scored four goals and Christina DiTucci (E. Rochester, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) added a goal and four assists to lead Gettysburg to a record-breaking 11-0 win over Chestnut Hill in NCAA Division III women's soccer tournament first-round action on Wednesday.

With the win, the Bullets tallied their second NCAA tournament win in their first appearance in five years. The Bullets (15-4-2) advance to the second round where they will meet The College of New Jersey (17-1-2), scoring 11 goals against Chestnut Hill, a NCAA tournament single-game record in all divisions.

Myers' four goals match the NCAA Division III tournament single-game record and the program record set in 1994 by Kristen Hull. She also raised her season goal count to 20, tying her with Hull for the program's all-time single-season record (1994).

DiTucci's four assists broke Gettysburg's single-game record previously held by Hull and Tracy Blasius ('95). The senior midfielder also set a new single-season assist record with 15, surpassing Hull again who had 12 in 1994.

It took Myers and DiTucci fewer then three minutes to put the Bullets, who dominated play immediately, on the board. DiTucci sent a cross from the left side, hitting Myers in stride who one-touched the ball past Chestnut Hill goalkeeper Kelly Evans.

Myers struck again in the 9th minute, drilling the ball into the net off on a rebound of a Jenny Line (Carlisle, PA/Carlisle) shot.

Katie Ferraro (Westminster, CO/St. Mary's Academy) put one past Evans at 26:28 off a pass from Liz Feldhusen (Acton, MA/Acton-Boxborough Regional), giving the Bullets a 3-0 lead at the close of the first half.

Gettysburg scored eight goals in the second stanza, firing 26 shots.

DiTucci made her second assist of the game on a goal by Line at the 56:18 mark.

Steph Heath (Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood) found the back of the net just over a minute later unassisted, driving in from the left.

Ferraro notched her second goal, heading the ball past Evans off a serve into the box from Heath.

DiTucci found Myers for the second time in the 65th minute and then scored on her own off a free kick at the 67:27 mark.

Myers and DiTucci connected one last time for the NCAA tournament record-tying ninth goal of the game at 70:21.

Kat Poster (Scarsdale, NY/Scarsdale) drew a foul in the box, setting Kelly Burke (Greenwood Village, CO/St. Mary's Academy) to score on a penalty kick with a little of six minutes remaining.

Steph Smith (Cooperstown, NY/Cooperstown) scored the Bullets' 11th and final goal with 11 seconds left on the clock off an assist from Megan Murphy (Stony Brook, NY/Ward Melville).

Gettysburg outshot Chestnut Hill 44-0 and had an 8-0 corner kick advantage.

Evans finished with a game-high 15 saves in the losing effort.

The Bullets travel to Mercer County Community College where they will meet TCNJ on Saturday. In regular season action, the Bullets fell to the Lions 4-0 on the road. Game time is 6 p.m.
