Gettysburg falls to College of New Jersey 2-1 in NCAA tournament second-round game

WEST WINDSOR, Pa. – Stephanie Peters scored the game-winning goal in the second half to lead The College of New Jersey past Gettysburg 2-1 in the NCAA Division III tournament second round at Mercer County Community College on Saturday.

 

With the loss the win, Bullets close their season with an overall record on 15-5-2 while the Lions advance to NCAA sectional action against Messiah on Friday, Nov. 19.

Katie Myers (Randallstown, PA/WSTES) put Gettysburg on the board with the Bullets' first shot of the game at 18:34. Jenny Line (Carlisle, PA/Carlisle) took control of the ball at midfield and sent the ball to Myers who was charging on goal and drilled the ball past the Lion's goalkeeper Alissa Kacar.

With the goal, Myers broke a Gettysburg six-year scoreless streak against TCNJ and snapped Kacar's 12-game shutout streak – totaling 1068:25 minutes. Myers also claimed sole possession of the program's all-time single-season goals scored record with 21 this season, surpassing Kristen Hull (20, 1994).

Linda O'Leary tied the game at 1-all at the 28:01 mark off a corner kick when the ball deflected off Bullet goalkeeper Kristin Short (Massapequa, NY/St. Anthony's) and into the net.

It took Peters fewer than two minutes into the second half to score the game winner off a corner kick serve from Courtney Krol, putting the Lions up for good.

The Lions held the Bullets to just three shots with Myers firing two in the first half. Steph Smith (Cooperstown, NY/Cooperstown) took Gettysburg's lone shot of the second half midway through the stanza, resulting in a Kacar save.

The Lions outshot the Bullets 21-3 and held a 10-0 corner kick advantage over Gettysburg.

Short closed the game with four saves while Kacar tallied two stops.
