SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Freshman Matt Shank (Reedsville, PA/Indian Valley) placed third at 141 and sophomore Mike Pattanite (Tabernacle, NJ/Holy Cross) finished sixth at heavyweight to lead Gettysburg to an 11th-place finish at the Doug Parker Invitational hosted by Springfield College on Saturday.
The Bullets finished with 50 team points in the 21-team field. Springfield won the team title with 153.5 points.
Shank notched a fall in the opening round, pinning Oswego's Tom Walker in 1 minute, 18 seconds. In the second round, he grabbed a 7-2 decision win over Roger Williams' Rich Bloom. He also tallied an 8-1 victory over Trinity's Will Moyet in the quarterfinals before falling 8-2 to Springfield's Mike Gaeta.
In the consolation bracket, Shank decisioned Luis Murillo (Trinity), 2-0 and won the third-place match with a 6-5 victory over Ken Stone (Bridgewater).
Pattanite opened his day with a loss before wrestling back to his sixth-place showing. Oswego's Jake Taylor won by fall in 3:37.
In the consolation bracket, Pattanite recorded a 7-4 win over Steve Campbell (Wesleyan) before notching three straight pins of Niko Havoras (Trinity), Tim Ferrera (Bridgewater) and John Periera (STCC). His pin of Ferrera in 27 seconds was the fourth quickest fall of the tournament.
Pattanite then fell by pins in his final two bouts to Kyle Brown (Thiel) and Taylor for his first place finish of the season.
Gettysburg returns to action on Dec. 3-4 at the Petrofes Invitational at Messiah. Action begins on Friday at 12 p.m. and resumes on Saturday at 9 a.m.
