Box Score

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Hanover native Ben Seibert scored a team-high 18 points to lead York (Pa.) over Gettysburg 69-62 in non-conference men’s basketball action on Tuesday.

Seibert tallied six points during a 9-0 run that put the Spartans (3-0) ahead to stay late in the second half. Brandon Bushey added 12 points while Paddy Lee scored eight points and pulled down 12 rebounds, giving York its third straight win at Bream Gymnasium.

David Glaser (West Chester, PA/Malvern Prep) led the Bullets (1-2) with 27 points and a career-high 13 rebounds. The senior captain also moved into sixth place on the program’s all-time scoring list, finishing the night with 1,232 career points.

Ryan Page (Laurel, MD/St. John’s College [DC]) chipped in with 10 points for Gettysburg while Erik Fromm (Swedesboro, NJ/Kingsway Regional) added nine. After hitting 53 percent of their shots on the season’s opening weekend, the Bullets went 22-for-51 (43 percent) from the floor on Tuesday.

After taking an eight-point lead into the locker room, the Spartans watched their hosts rally for a late 51-47 lead before turning the tide.

Bushey’s 3-pointer off an assist from Seibert pulled York within 51-50 and Seibert’s second-chance layup on the Spartans’ next possession put them ahead to stay with 5:18 remaining. Seibert struck for another layup and two free throws to cap the 9-0 burst and give his squad a 56-51 lead with 3:54 left.

Two Glaser free throws cut the deficit to 56-54, but a jumper by Brian Singer and two foul shots by Kenny Fass restored the six-point cushion. Page drained his second trey of the contest to pull the Bullets within 60-58 with 1:14 left before Singer hit 1 of 2 charity tosses for a 61-58 advantage.

On Gettysburg’s next possession, Page’s game-tying 3-pointer missed off the back rim and York hit 8 of 10 free throws in the final 41 seconds to seal the victory.

Powered by nine quick points from Glaser, the Bullets opened a 12-8 lead in the game’s first seven minutes. With Gettysburg mired in an eight-minute scoring drought, however, the Spartans reeled off the next 10 points to go ahead 18-12.

Matt Whelan (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield/Worcester Acad. [MA]) drained a 3-pointer to end the dry spell, but York closed the half with a 9-4 burst, taking a 27-19 lead into the locker room after a jumper by Joe Yeck.

The teams combined to shoot 35 percent from the floor in the opening half before warming up after the break.

With his 27-point outing, Glaser moved past former teammate Curtis McNeil (1,210 points from 1998-2002) on the Bullets’ all-time scoring list.
Singer finished with 11 points while Fass chipped in with nine points, six boards and four assists.

Gettysburg returns to action on Monday at Messiah. Game time is 8 p.m.
