Jess Rogers tallied twice to lead
No. 4 Ursinus to a 4-1 win over 16th-ranked Gettysburg in the Centennial Conference (CC)
field hockey semifinals on Saturday.
In addition to Rogers
two goals, Joyce Anne Koubaroulis added a goal
and two assists for the top-seeded Bears (18-1), who advanced
to their first-ever CC championship game.
Meg
Goddu (Chadds Ford,
PA/Unionville)
tallied the lone goal for the Bullets (12-7), whose 2004
season ends the same place the 2003 season concluded.
Koubaroulis
got Ursinus on the board in the 27th minute,
tallying off a Molly Stevens assist.
Rogers
got the eventual game-winner 1 minute, 35 seconds later
off Koubaroulis first assist
of the afternoon.
Karen
Wendler made it 3-0 at the intermission, scoring off
a Kourbaroulis assist at the 32:51
mark.
Goddu pulled Gettysburg
within two, netting her team-leading 13th goal
of the season at the 42:42 mark.
Rogers
set the final margin, taking a ball from Wendler
in the 57th minute and driving it home to make
it 4-1.
Jessica
Lamina made five saves for Ursinus in the winning
effort.
Katherine
Corkhill (Paoli, PA/Academy of Notre Dame) made 11 saves to close out her rookie
season for Gettysburg.
The Bears finished with
an 11-5 edge in penalty corners and a 16-6 advantage in
shots, and will face Franklin & Marshall in Sundays
championship. The Diplomats defeated Dickinson
in the other semifinal, 6-0.
