Kristin Sassaman
scored 22 points to lead No. 12-ranked Messiah to a 59-48 win over Gettysburg
in non-conference womens basketball action on Saturday.
With
the win, the Falcons (6-0) remain undefeated and collected their third-straight
victory over the Bullets (4-4), tallying their 14th win out of the
last 17 meetings.
Jen Bengel (Timonium, MD/Roland Park
Country School) collected her third double-double with 18 points and
11 rebounds while Kathryn Reilly (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) add a season-high 14 points and five
boards.
Messiah
jumped off to a 7-0 lead and never trailed. Gettysburg
tied the game at 10 and stayed close but could never take over the lead. Fueled
by Sassamans 14 first-half points, Messiah had
a five-point advantage at the close of the first half, 25-20.
Both
teams shot 39 percent from the floor, but the Falcons made eight treys while the
Bullets went 0-of-6 from three-point range. Lauren
Schurr went 5-of-8 from beyond the arc, while Sassaman also dropped two triples.
Elizabeth Ross (Chestertown, MD/St. Andrews [DE]) was two points shy of her sixth double-double, scoring
eight points and pulling down 10 boards for the Bullets.
Eli Cook
added 12 points and a team-high seven rebounds.
The
Bullets return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 5 at Bryn Mawr.
