Franklin & Marshall holds on for sixth straight win over Gettysburg; Diplomats stay perfect in dramatic fashion

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Jackiem Wright netted a game-high 17 points, including the go-ahead 3-pointer with 2:15 to play, to lift No. 5 Franklin & Marshall to a 68-65 victory at Gettysburg in Centennial Conference (CC) men’s basketball action on Wednesday.

Wright, behind five field goals and five free throws, led three players in double figures for the Diplomats (4-0, 3-0 CC), who defeated the Bullets (2-4, 1-1 CC) for the sixth straight time over the last three seasons.

Ryan Page (Laurel, MD/St. John’s College [DC]) led four Gettysburg players in double figues with a career-high 16 points and six rebounds. David Glaser (West Chester, PA/Malvern Prep) added 13 points – all in the second half – and grabbed a game-high eight boards.

After Page drilled a 3-pointer from the top of the arc to give the Bullets a 63-61 advantage, Wright answered with a trey of his own and converted 1 of 2 free throws for a 65-63 F&M lead with 1:52 to play.

Dan Lynch stretch the lead to three, hitting the back end of two charity tosses before a putback by Eric Fromm (Swedesboro, NJ/Kingsway Regional) pulled the hosts back to within 66-65 with 6.8 seconds showing.

One second later, Wright made good on both of his free throws to push the lead back to three, but Gettysburg could not get a shot off in the waning seconds to force overtime.

After 10 lead changes in the first half, the Bullets opened up a seven-point advantage on two occasions, the last coming at 30-23 on a Mike Spadafora (Richboro, PA/Archbishop Wood) triple with 3:16 remaining in the opening stanza.

Bob Lynch started a 7-0 spurt with a second-chance layup and 3-pointer for the fifth tie of the opening half before Spadafora nailed an elbow jumper at the buzzer for a 32-30 lead.

Glaser and Page pushed the lead to six 1 minute, 22 seconds into the second half before Dan Lynch sparked a 9-2 burst over the next two and half minutes for the Diplomats first lead since the 7:09 mark of the first half.

Fromm gave the Bullets a 42-41 lead with 15:17 to play before Logan Outerbridge hit a jumper to start the decisive 15-4 run over the next eight minutes.

Outerbridge had seven points, including a triple to cap the burst.

Page provided a spark to pull the Bullets within seven, and Glaser recorded the next seven Gettysburg points, including a trey and emphatic fast-break dunk to pull the hosts within 58-57.

Spadafora notched 13 points while Fromm registered 10 points and seven rebounds for the Bullets.

Outerbridge scored 15 points for the Diplomats while Bob Lynch chipped in 10.

Gettysburg returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 18 at Navy. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
