Johns Hopkins comes from behind to defeat Gettysburg, 76-57

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Maureen Myers scored 15 of her game-high 18 points in the second half to erase a 10-point deficit and help eighth-ranked Johns Hopkins defeat Gettysburg 76-57 in Centennial Conference (CC) women's basketball action on Wednesday.

Ashanna Randall recorded a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds while Julie Miller added 12 points for the Blue Jays (20-2, 15-1 CC), to win their eight straight game and keep pace with McDaniel for first place in the CC.

Jen Bengel (Timonium, MD/Roland Park Country) collected 11 points and a game-high 14 rebounds for her 12th double-double performance of the season. Playing in her final home game, Dana Bear (Lansdale, PA/Lansdale Catholic) also posted 11 points to move into fourth place on the Bullets' (10-13, 7-9 CC) all-time scoring list.

Down 45-35 with 18:31 left to play, Johns Hopkins scored 41 of the last 53 points in the second half capture the come-from-behind victory.

After Bengel's sixth collegiate three-pointer, the Blue Jays took control and used a 14-4 run to knot the game at 49. Myers scored seven points on two jumpers and a trey over a six-minute span. From there, JHU took back the lead it last had at 8:29 mark of the first half.

Gettysburg was held to one point over the next eight minutes, while the Blue Jays scored 17 more and extended their lead to double digits at 66-50. Miller tallied the next seven out of nine points to give JHU it's biggest lead at 75-52.

The Blue Jays shot 38-percent from the floor, but scored 34 points off turnovers in the second half to end with a 19-point victory.

In a tightly contested first half, Johns Hopkins took the 10-3 lead thanks to an Amanda Leese free throw and three-pointer by Myers. A Kathryn Reilly (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) jumper sparked a 8-1 run to tie the game at 11. In the midst of three lead changes, the Bullets knocked down three consecutive treys from Jamie Marshall (Pottsville, PA/Nativity BVM), Bear and Emily Falk (Boiling Springs, PA/Boiling Springs) to give Gettysburg a 20-15 edge.

Falk's two free-throws and Bear's trey gave the Bullets an eight-point lead at 33-25. A steal by Miller and fast-break layup from Kelly Rumsey brought the Blue Jays within a field goal at 35-33. On the next possession, Ross sank a layup and Bear drained her final trey of the game for a 40-33 halftime lead.

Falk hit double figures with 10 points. Marshall recorded nine points, seven rebounds and a game-high six assists.

Gettysburg returns to action on Saturday at Swarthmore. Game time is 2 p.m.
