CARLISLE,
Pa. Matt Keys and Brad Litchfield combined for 57
points to lead Dickinson past Gettysburg 74-59 in Centennial
Conference (CC) mens basketball action on Tuesday.
Keys set
career highs with six 3-pointers and 30 points while Litchfield
added 27 as the Red Devils (5-20, 4-14 CC) snapped a five-game
losing streak and closed the season with a win over the
Bullets (14-11, 10-8 CC) for the third time in the past
four years.
David Glaser (West Chester, PA/Malvern
Prep) led
Gettysburg with 25 points while Todd Brady (Hancock, NH/ConVal) chipped
in with 12.
Trailing
by as many as seven in the second half, Dickinson used the hot hands of Keys and Litchfield to finish
its season on a high note.
Kyle Jakobe (Baltimore, MD/McDonogh/Peddie [NJ]) gave Gettysburg its last lead of the night at 46-45 with 10:47 left. Following a Red Devil timeout, Keys responded
with the first of four 3-pointers during a 19-6 stretch
that put the home team in command.
Keys stretched
the lead to 50-46 with a pair of free throws before Dan
Sarsfield scored his only
two points of the night on a driving layup.
A Glaser 3-point play pulled the Bullets within 52-49, but
Keys answered from behind the arc to restore Dickinsons six-point advantage.
With the
Red Devils up 56-51, Keys nailed treys on back-to-back possessions
to give Dickinson its first double-digit lead of the game at 62-51 with
4:48 left. Litchfield hit 8 of 10 free throws over the final
2:09 and Gettysburg could get no closer than nine the rest of the way.
The teams
battled back and forth through six ties before two Brady
free throws gave the Bullets a 29-28 halftime lead. Six
straight points to open the second half gave Gettysburg
its largest advantage of the game at 35-28, but two Litchfield
3-pointers helped the Red Devils get back to within 39-38
with 15:21 left.
In addition
to Keys and Litchfields scoring explosion, Jimmy
Martelli dished out a
game-high seven assists while Jon
Skvarka helped the cause
with a game-high 14 rebounds.
Gettysburg shot just 5-for-22 from 3-point range on the night,
including 1-for-10 from behind the arc in the second half.
The Bullets were also out-rebounded, 40-27.
Gettysburg returns to action on Thursday at home against Haverford in a tie-breaker
game to determine the CC's fourth and final playoff spot.
