Box Score
ALLENTOWN, Pa. Kristen
Piscadlo connected on
five of Muhlenbergs 13 3-pointers
as the Mules rolled to an 89-74 Centennial Conference (CC)
womens basketball victory over Gettysburg on Saturday.
Piscadlo
netted a game-high 21 points on 8-for-16 shooting in 19
minutes of action. Jill Friedman and Susan
Marchiano also reached
double figures for Muhlenberg (15-5, 10-3 CC) with 16 and
11, respectively. Friedman also pulled down a game-high
nine rebounds.
Jen
Bengel (Timonium,
MD/Roland
Park
Country
School) paced five players in double figures for the
Bullets (9-12, 6-8 CC) with 16 points, which dropped their
fourth in a row to the Mules and lost for the sixth straight
time in Allentown. She also tied a team best in rebounding with
eight.
Bengel had five of her seven first-half points in
the games opening 1:14, but Freidman scored Muhlenbergs
first six points for a 6-5 advantage at the 18:13 mark and
the Mules did not trail again.
An
Elizabeth Ross (Chestertown, MD/St. Andrews
[DE]) layup at 15:58 cut
the lead to 10-9 in favor of the hosts, but a 29-4 run over
the next 10 minutes, 29 seconds gave Muhlenberg its largest
lead of the game at 39-13 with 5:29 to play in the opening
stanza.
During
the decisive stretch, ten different Mules scored at least
two points led by Piscadlo with five. Five of the 11 Muhlenberg field goals
scored in that span were from behind the arc, helping the
Mules tie a program record for 3-pointers in a game.
Following
a Gettysburg timeout, Dana Bear (Lansdale,
PA/Lansdale
Catholic)
snapped the run with a layup to
spark a 8-3 spurt. The next six
Bullet points came in the form of free throws to cut the
lead to 39-21 with 3:05 to play
in the first half en route to a 51-29 halftime deficit.
The
six free throws were part of a 23-for-23 day from the charity
stripe, marking the best showing by a Gettysburg team under Mike Kirkpatrick.
In Kirkpatricks first season (1989-90), the Bullets
made 6 of 6 in a 52-46 home loss to Western
Maryland
(now McDaniel) on Feb. 10. The last time a team in the CC
was perfect from the line was an 11-for-11 showing by Washington
(Md.) against Goucher
on Jan. 11, 2003.
Muhlenberg stretched the
lead to as many as 27 on two occasions in the second half,
the last coming at 81-54 with 6:51 showing. Gettysburg
closed the game on a 20-8 run, fueled by 11 trips to the
free-throw line, for the final margin. Bear led the way
in the final stretch with seven of her 12 points, including
all four of her free throws.
Kathryn
Reilly (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood)
added 11 points while Ross and Emily
Falk (Boiling
Springs,
PA/Boiling Springs) chipped in with
10 points apiece, marking the fifth time this season that
five Bullets have finished in double digits.
Bengel
and Reilly led the free-throw clinic with 5-for-5 outings
while Falk added four assists and joined Bear with a 4-for-4
day from the stripe. Jamie
Marshall (Pottsville, PA/Nativity B.V.M) added eight rebounds
and four assists.
Gettysburg
returns home next Saturday for a game with Washington (Md.).
