Straubs RBI single helps Gettysburg tie Richard Stockton, 4-4

Box Score

COCOA, Fla. – Chase Straub (Perkasie, PA/Pennridge) singled home Austin Ball (Farmingdale, NY/Hills East) in the bottom of the seventh as Gettysburg tied Richard Stockton 4-4 in non-conference baseball action on Saturday at the Cocoa Expo.

The Bullets (2-2-1) nearly won the game on the same hit, but Ryan Lenihan (Old Tappan, NJ/Northern Valley Regional) was thrown out at the plate by Osprey center fielder Travis LaFerriere to force extra innings.

Neither team was able to score in the eighth or ninth before the game was called. Gettysburg had the best opportunity, loading the bases with two outs in the eighth inning.

Ron Lettieri (South Hempstead, NY/South Side) continued his hot start, going 3-for-6 with two runs scored. Four other Bullets connected for two hits apiece, including Straub and Lenihan, whose double was the squad's lone extra-base hit of the afternoon. Starter Tom Gallione (Demarest, NJ/Northern Valley) worked 6 and 2/3 innings before giving way to Joe Gossweiler (Florham Park, NJ/Hanover Park).

John Orlando had three hits and two RBIs for Richard Stockton (3-4-1) while Brian Paras collected three hits and scored twice. Chris Crescenzi was the third Osprey with three hits, including a triple.

After a three-run fifth gave Richard Stockton a 3-2 lead, Gettysburg knotted the game in the bottom of the sixth on Mike Luteran's (Livingston, NJ/Livingston) two-out RBI single.

Orlando delivered a two-out run-scoring single of his own in the top of the seventh to make it 4-3, but Bullet left fielder Ben Carey (Colchester, CT/St. Bernard) threw Crescenzi out at the plate to end the inning.

Gettysburg rallied in the seventh. Ball drew a one-out walk and Lenihan followed with a double to put runners on second and third. Reliever Dave Hall got Gossweiler to pop out, but Straub ripped a single that plated Ball with the tying run.

Gossweiler closed the door on the Ospreys in the final two innings, fanning three with no walks.

The Bullets return to action with two games on Sunday. Gettysburg faces Oneonta State at 10 a.m. and FDU-Florham at 1 p.m.
