Box Score vs. FDU-Florham
COCOA, Fla. – Josh Gransbury threw six shutout innings to lead Oneonta State over Gettysburg 8-0 in non-conference action on Sunday at the Cocoa Expo.
The Bullets (2-4-1) also fell in the nightcap, dropping a 13-1 decision to FDU-Florham and extending their winless streak to five games. Gettysburg managed only six hits on the afternoon. Chase Straub (Perkasie, PA/Pennridge) scored the Bullets' lone run.
In the opener, Oneonta plated its first two runners of the game and jumped to a 5-0 lead after three innings.
Rocco Grassi led off the contest with a single and stole second ahead of a walk to Jamie Wright. With one out, Brad Guszack delivered an RBI single and Wright scored on an error to make it 2-0.
Gettysburg put runners on second and third with two outs in the bottom of the first, but a strikeout ended the threat. Gransbury didn't allow another Bullet to reach third base in his final five innings of work.
Another Gettysburg error allowed Thomas Colt to score the Red Dragons' third run of the game in the second frame. A run-scoring single by Mike VanPatten and an RBI groundout off the bat of Greg Sulz gave Oneonta a five-run cushion after three.
In game two, FDU-Florham needed only two innings to take a 5-0 lead before putting the game away with an eight-run fifth. Thomas Calistri led the Devils with four RBIs, knocking in a pair of runs in second and fifth frames.
Straub scored the Bullets' only run in the sixth, drawing a lead-off walk and coming around to score on an error.
Gettysburg returns to action on Monday with a doubleheader against Finlandia. Game times are 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
