ORLANDO, Fla. – Katie Lowe (Setauket,
NY/Ward Melville) and Amy Farrell (Ambler, PA/Upper
Dublin) scored three goals apiece to lead fourth-ranked
Gettysburg over Babson 16-4 in non-conference women’s lacrosse
action on Tuesday.
Julika Blankenship (Crumpton, MD/Kent
County) added one goal and two assists, becoming the
program’s all-time assists leader on Farrell’s game-opening
tally just 1:44 into the contest. Blankenship finished the
day with 99 career assists, snapping a tie with former teammate
Megan Murphy for the top spot.
Eight other Bullets found net on the
day, including Ellie Shihadeh (Malvern, PA/Conestoga)
and Dawn Mennen (Pennington, NJ/Shawnee), who
each scored twice. The Gettysburg (4-0) defense also did its
part, holding the Beavers (0-2) scoreless for nearly 25 minutes
to start the game.
Blankenship wasted little time entering the
Bullet record books, setting up Farrell’s goal at 1:44 to
open the scoring. Minutes later, Blankenship scored her only
goal of the game to give Gettysburg a 2-0 lead.
Free-position goals by Shihadeh and Lowe made
it 4-0 with 16:47 left in the half. Thirty-three seconds later,
Shihadeh struck again off an assist from Cassidy Zappacosta
(Monkton, MD/Maryvale Prep) and Farrell capped the
6-0 run with an unassisted marker.
Brittany Wigmore scored with
5:33 remaining before the break to put Babson on the scoreboard,
but Mennen answered off an Alexandra Ewing (Monkton,
MD/Garrison Forest) set-up with three seconds left
to give the Bullets a 7-1 halftime lead.
Jess Segar’s (West Chester, PA/Villa
Maria Acad.) first goal of the year pushed the lead
into double digits for the first time at 12-2 with 21:51 left.
Fellow senior Jacquie O’Connor (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood)
extended the margin to 14-2 with 12:18 remaining and Gettysburg
cruised down the stretch.
Liz Borucki (Medford, NJ/Shawnee)
and Heather Kelley (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga) combined
for seven saves in the Gettysburg net. The Bullets scored
on 5 of 7 free-position shots on the night and are 16-for-28
(57 percent) from the 8-meter arc this season.

and Ashley Platt also scored for the Beavers.
Gettysburg returns to action on Thursday against
Trinity (Conn.) in Florida. Game time is 3 p.m.
