ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – Molly Gale (Franklin, MI/Wylie E. Groves) went 3-for 4 with two runs, three RBIs and a home run in game two as Gettysburg and Elizabethtown split in non-conference softball doubleheader on Thursday.
Gale, currently riding an 11-game hitting streak, hit her first home run of the season to help the Bullets (7-4) take the early lead and a game-two victory, 6-2. The Blue Jays (6-8) captured game one, 6-0.
Gettysburg starter Jackie Pareso (Washington, PA/Canevin Catholic) allowed four hits and two runs, while striking out four to collect her third win and remain undefeated on the hill. Sara Gutermuth (Flanders, NJ/Mount Olive) added a 3-for-4 performance with one RBI in game two.
In the nightcap, the Bullets put three runs on the scoreboard in the first inning thanks to Gale's three-run homer on her first at bat. Leading off, Katie Eiden (Silver Spring, MD/Georgetown Visitation [DC]) singled to left field and Adrienne Simmons (Douglassville, PA/Daniel Boone) reached on an error then advancing to second on a wild pitch.
Gale stepped up to the plate and knocked one out of the park for her fourth collegiate home run, scoring Eiden and Simmons for the quick 3-0 lead.
Gettysburg scored three more runs in the third and held Elizabethtown to a run in the third and fourth innings. Megan Pilarcik (Middletown, MD/Middletown) singled to right field to bring home Pareso, before Gutermuth brought in Gale on her hit to center field.
Margaret Hallahan (Huntingdon, PA/Huntingdon) hit a sacrifice fly and Pilarcik beat the throw to the plate for a 6-0 lead that would not relinquish.
The Blue Jays first run was scored by Emily Morris, after she drove a double into left field and touched home on Kelli Thon's single third base. Lauren Dressler another run in the bottom of the fourth inning, but Pareso held Elizabethtown to only one hit down the stretch to secure the win.
In the opener, Michelle Morris threw a five-hit shutout and struck out six to pick up her third win of the season and help the Blue Jays take game one, 6-0.
Elizabethtown scored four runs in the second inning, two in the third and held the Bullets scoreless for its six win of the season.
Erin Malone scored on Diana Aria's RBI single to right field, before Lindsey Bowe hit an RBI single to send in Kelly Johnson. Morris tripled to center field to score Aria and Bowe, making it 4-0 after two innings.
Kate Sharkey and Malone each collected a run in the third inning to capture game one.
Eiden tallied two hits for the Bullets, while Shannon Kiry (Cinnaminson, NJ/ Cinnaminson) dropped to 2-3 on the mound this season.
Gettysburg returns to action on Saturday at home against Muhlenberg. The doubleheader is at 1 p.m.
