GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Jackie Pareso (Washington, PA/Canevin Catholic) hit an RBI sacrifice fly to knock in the game-winning run in game two as Gettysburg swept Muhlenberg 3-1 and 3-2 in Centennial Conference (CC) softball action on Saturday.
With one out and bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh inning, Pareso brought home Courtney Jamieson (Rochester, NY/Penfield) to score the game-winner and help the Bullets (9-4, 2-0 CC) take two from the defending CC champions.
Katie Eiden (Silver Spring, MD/Georgetown Visitation [DC]) and Adrienne Simmons (Douglassville, PA/Daniel Boone) each tallied two hits in game two, while Pareso picked up her fourth win of the season.
Danielle DeLucia, who suffered her second loss on the mound, went 2-for-4 with one runs scored in the game-two loss for Muhlenberg.
In a rematch of last year's CC championship tilt, Gettysburg battled back from a 2-0 deficit in the nightcap, scoring two runs in the bottom of the fourth and one in the seventh to sweep the Mules (7-5, 0-2 CC).
Muhlenberg jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead after the first inning. DeLucia doubled to left field and scored the first run of the game on a Missy DeFrain RBI single. The Mules took advantage of three errors in the second inning to put another run on the board for the 2-0 lead.
On her only hit of the game, Pareso smacked a triple in to center field and scored on Molly Gale's (Franklin, MI/Wylie E. Groves) RBI single. Megan Pilarcik (Middletown, MD/Middletown) made it to second base after two players collided in the outfield and Gale advanced to third. Michelle Oravis (Morgantown, PA/Boyertown) then hit an RBI single to send home Gale for the game-tying run.
Sturdy defense held both teams scoreless through the next two innings. In the bottom of the seventh, Brooke Ranson (Nassau, Bahamas/Kent School [CT]) reached on an error while Eiden and Simmons both singled to make it bases loaded with one out.
With Jamieson on third pinch running for Ranson, Pareso send a fly ball into center field to send in the game-winning run for the 3-2 victory.
On the mound, Pareso allowed two runs on seven hits while striking out two for her fourth win of the season.
In the opener, the Bullets scored three runs in the third inning and stopped Muhlenberg with bases loaded on two occasions to come away with a 3-1 victory.
Gettysburg tallied four hits and three RBIs in the bottom of the third for a 3-0 lead. Eiden doubled to center field and beat the throw to home plate on Pareso's RBI single to second base. The same play happened on Gale's single and Pareso scored, before Gutermuth hit an RBI one to center field for Gale to reach the plate.
The Mules prevented the shut out in the fifth inning thanks to Nicole Sarno's RBI single to shortstop, knocking in Sarah Shipman.
Sara Gutermuth (Flanders, NJ/Mount Olive) went 2-for-3 with an RBI while Shannon Kiry (Cinnaminson, NJ/ Cinnaminson) only gave up one run on five hits and picked up her third win to even her record.
Gettysburg returns to action on Thursday at home against Messiah. The doubleheader is at 3:30 p.m.
