McDaniel outlasts Gettysburg for 9-5 conference baseball win

WESTMINSTER, Md.Chad Keller and Ryan Shotzberger combined for eight of McDaniel's 16 hits on the afternoon to lead the Green Terror to a 9-5 Centennial Conference (CC) baseball victory over visiting Gettysburg on Tuesday.

Ron Lettieri (South Hempstead, NY/South Side), Nathan Smith (Milford, NY/Cooperstown) and Chase Straub (Perkasie, PA/Pennridge) collected two hits apiece for the Bullets (9-9-1, 2-3 CC).

David Skoczlas pitched seven innings for McDaniel (11-2, 5-0 CC) for his third victory of the spring, striking out eight along the way.

Trailing 4-3 after six innings, Gettysburg plated two runs in the top of the seventh inning to take its final lead of the game.

With one out, Mike Cipolloni (Riegelsville, PA/Germantown Academy) doubled. Straub's second base hit of the afternoon scored pinch-runner Jon Giordano (Massapequa Park, NY/Massapequa) before coming around to give the Bullets the 5-4 lead on a Lettieri single.

In the bottom of the inning, Jimmy Dahlgreen hit a three-run homer to give his team a 7-5 edge.

In the eighth, Keller tallied his only RBI of the contest, singling with two out to bring home Jeff Dyke. Chris Seibert tacked on one more when he scored on Gettysburg's lone error of the game.

The Green Terror jumped on the board early, plating two in their first appearance at the plate. A two-run blast by Shotzberger gave McDaniel the early 2-0 advantage.

The Bullets came right back, however, in the top of the second when Smith scored on a Ben Carey (Colchester, CT/St. Bernard) groundout. With two out in the inning, Straub singled to bring home Austin Ball (Farmingdale, NY/Hills East) to knot the game at 2-all.

Mike Luteran (Livingston, NJ/Livingston) gave Gettysburg a 3-2 edge with a solo shot in the visitor third.

In the bottom half of the frame, Shotzberger hit a one-out double before advancing to third on a wild pitch and scoring on a Dahlgren sacrifice fly to the pitcher to even the score once again.

In the home sixth, a Greg Hammack double with two away allowed Justin Bilohlavek to score and give McDaniel a 4-3 advantage.

Tom Gallione (Denarest, NJ/Northern Valley) worked seven inning, picking up the loss.

The Bullets complete the season series with McDaniel on Friday at home. First pitch is 3 p.m.
