Bullets win a pair over Swarthmore; Gettysburg remains undefeated in CC

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Molly Gale (Franklin, MI/Wylie E. Groves) went a combined 5-for-6 with a home run, four runs and three RBIs to lead Gettysburg past Swarthmore 8-0 and 7-2 in Centennial Conference (CC) softball action on Saturday.

The Bullets (14-5, 6-0 CC) scored five runs in the top of the tenth-inning tiebreaker to take game two from the Garnet (5-15-1, 1-6-1 CC) and remain the only team undefeated in the CC.

Jackie Pareso (Washington, PA/Canevin Catholic) battled through ten innings on the mound to collect her sixth win. Pareso struck out seven and gave up two runs, while Sara Gutermuth (Flanders, NJ/Mount Olive) tallied two hits and two RBIs in the game-two victory.

Kelly Siano tallied three hits and Mary Mintel collected two hits in the nightcap for Swarthmore. Gettysburg captured game in five innings, before using extra innings to win the nightcap and sweep Swarthmore for the fourth straight year.

Down 2-1 after six innings, Margaret Hallahan (Huntingdon, PA/Huntingdon) scored the game-tying run in the top of the seventh to force extra innings. Hallahan singled to get on base, moving to second on a sacrifice bunt by Megan Gorsuch (Mount Airy, MD/South Carroll).

After advancing to third on Brooke Ranson's (Nassau, Bahamas/Kent School [CT]) single to center field, Hallahan then scored on a RBI sacrifice bunt by Katie Eiden (Silver Spring, MD/Georgetown Visitation [DC]).

Two scoreless innings later, Gorsuch was placed on second to start the tiebreaker inning. Megan Dean (Olney, MD/Our Lady of Good Counsel) bunted and Eiden reached on a fielder's choice, loading the bases with no outs. Adrienne Simmons (Douglassville, PA/Daniel Boone) hit an RBI single bring Gorsuch in for the game-winning run. From there, the Bullets scored four more runs and held the Garnet scoreless in the tenth for the victory.

Swarthmore took the early lead when Valerie Malone reached on a fielder's choice to bring home Mintel to make it 1-0 after the first. Gale answered right back with her second home run of the season in the top of the second to knot the game at one.

Siano put another run on the board in the third inning, but that would be the last run for the Garnet. Gettysburg scored six runs in the third inning for an 8-0 victory in game one.

Six different Bullet players tallied a hit, including doubles from Gale, Hallahan and Megan Pilarcik (Middletown, MD/Middletown).

In the first inning, Eiden made it 1-0 on Gale's RBI double to center field. Gettysburg scored six runs on two hits and two Swarthmore errors in the third, before adding the final run in the fourth.

Shannon Kiry (Cinnaminson, NJ/ Cinnaminson) fired five scoreless innings en route to her fifth shutout win of the season.

The Bullets return to action on Tuesday at Franklin & Marshall. The doubleheader is at 2:30 p.m.
