Bullets keep unblemished record in CC; Gettysburg sweeps Haverford

HAVERFORD, Pa. - Molly Gale (Franklin, MI/Wylie E. Groves) and Megan Pilarcik (Middletown, MD/Middletown) each smacked solo home runs in opposite games to help Gettysburg sweep Haverford in Centennial Conference (CC) softball action on Thursday.

Pilarcik tallied her first collegiate home run and started the trend in an 8-1 game-one victory, while Gale hit one out of the park in game two to help the Bullets (16-5, 8-0 CC) defeat the Fords (9-14, 1-7 CC) 6-2 in the night cap.

In addition to her third home run of the season, Gale went a combined 4-for-6 with four runs scored, while Pilarcik tallied four hits and four runs.

Haverford's Kaitlyn Luther tallied two hits with a double in game one and Gray Vargas-Regan tallied a hit and one run in the losing effort.

Gettysburg snapped a 2-all tie, scoring two runs in the sixth and seventh innings to capture game two and keep an unblemished record in conference play.

Gale put the Bullets on the board with her sixth collegiate home run in the top of the fourth inning. Gale then drove in Katie Eiden (Silver Spring, MD/Georgetown Visitation [DC]) on a double for a 2-0 lead. The Fords tied it up with two runs in the fifth from Vargas-Regan and Jen Ward. Vargas-Regan walked to start off the inning and scored on two errors, before Ward scored on a double by Nora Spriggs.

The Bullets bounced right back and capitalized on two Haverford errors to score two runs in the top of the sixth inning. In the final inning, Pilarcik's RBI double allowed Gale to score and Oravis hit an RBI double to bring home Pilarcik to end the inning and the game, 6-2.

Jackie Pareso (Washington, PA/Canevin Catholic) collected her seventh win in her eighth appearance on the mound, giving up two runs on five hits.

With only a one run lead after five innings, Gettysburg took advantage of the sixth inning and scored four runs to pull away from Haverford in game one.

Megan Gorsuch (Mount Airy, MD/South Carroll) singled and stole home for a l-0 Bullet lead in the third inning. With two outs in the fourth, Pilarcik hit her first collegiate home run to make it 2-0.

Sarah Nagle scored the lone run for the Fords in the fourth inning, before Gettysburg exploded with four runs on three hits in the sixth inning to take a commanding 6-1 lead.

Pareso ripped a double, before being driven in by Gale's single. Sara Gutermuth (Flanders, NJ/Mount Olive) singled to score Gale. Two errors later, Gutermuth and Pilarcik reached home to give the Bullets a five run edge.

Gettysburg scored its final two runs in the seventh inning and held Haverford off the board, thanks to the efforts of Shannon Kiry (Cinnaminson, NJ/ Cinnaminson). Kiry pitched her seventh complete game, only allowing one run on five hits for the victory.

The Bullets return to action tomorrow at Franklin & Marshall. The doubleheader is at 3:30 p.m.
