GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Julika Blankenship
(Crumpton, MD/Kent County) moved into second place
on Gettysburg’s career points list as the Bullets clinched
the top seed in the Centennial Conference (CC) women’s lacrosse
playoffs with an 18-11 victory at Haverford on Saturday.
Blankenship scored two goals and handed
out three assists to finish the day with 276 career points,
moving past Colleen Dunn (272 from 1993-96).
Only former teammate Megan Murphy (284 from
2000-03) stands between Blankenship and the No. 1 spot.
Kathy Delauney (Lutherville, MD/Roland
Park Country School) netted a team-high three goals
for the two-time defending CC champions, who will host the
2004 conference tournament on May 1-2. Amy Farrell (Ambler,
PA/Upper Dublin) and Cassidy Zappacosta (Monkton,
MD/Maryvale Prep) chipped in with two goals and one
assist apiece to key Gettysburg’s 25th consecutive CC victory.
Margaret Sampson paced
the Fords (4-7, 1-5 CC) with four goals and two assists while
Katherine Duffy made 13 saves.
Intent on locking up CC hosting rights
for the second straight year, the Bullets stormed to a 7-0
lead and cruised to the clinching victory.

to put Gettysburg (13-2, 8-0 CC) ahead to stay and Jenn
Kelly (Westbury, NY/Carle Place) scored off an assist
from Farrell to make it 2-0. Ellie Shihadeh (Malvern,
PA/Conestoga) and Delauney followed with back-to-back
markers for a four-goal lead.
Blankenship caught Dunn with an assist
on Shihadeh’s goal, then claimed sole possession of second
place by setting up Katie Lowe (Setauket, NY/Ward Melville)
at 14:31. Blankenship converted a free-position attempt and
Farrell scored off a Zappacosta feed at 17:20 to cap Gettysburg’s
game-opening burst.
Jody Mayer scored her two
goals to pull the Fords within 8-2. Zappacosta and Alexandra
Ewing (Monkton, MD/Garrison Forest) extended the Bullet
lead to 10-2 before Sampson scored with 24 seconds left in
the half.
Haverford could get no closer after the break.
Jen Betts’ (Potomac, MD/Acad. of the Holy Cross)
goal with 4:12 remaining gave Gettysburg its largest lead
of the game at 18-8.

outshot the Fords 40-15. Dawn Mennen (Pennington, NJ/Shawnee)
