GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Mary Reid went 2-for-3 and scored the game-winning run in game one to help Ursinus sweep Gettysburg 2-1 and 7-5 in Centennial Conference (CC) softball action on Saturday.

In the battle of the two top teams in the conference, the Bears (21-6-1, 8-1 CC) scored the game-winner in the top of the eighth inning in game one and then tallied seven runs on 14 hits in the nightcap to take control of first place in the CC.

Molly Gale (Franklin, MI/Wylie E. Groves) went a combined 3-for-7 and scored the game-tying run in game one, while Megan Dean (Olney, MD/Our Lady of Good Counsel) tallied two hits in two appearances with an RBI and one run scored in game two for the Bullets (17-8, 9-3 CC).

Playing its third conference game in three days, Gettysburg rallied back from a 1-0 defict and scored the game-tying run in the seventh, but came up short in the opener.

With two outs in the eighth, Reid singled to left field and DeBow walked to put runners on first and second. Caldwell reached on an error and Reid rounded third and continued home for the game-winning run.

In the fourth inning, Reid hit a double to right field and got to third on a sacrifice bunt from Kelly DeBow. With the runner on third and one out, Eileen Caldwell hit a ground ball that barely stayed inside the third base plate to stay fair and score DeBow for a 1-0 lead.

The Bullets came up empty in the next two innings, waiting until the bottom of the seventh to tie game at one. First up to bat, Gale hit the back of the fence for her eighth triple of the season and put herself in scoring position with no outs. Sara Gutermuth (Flanders, NJ/Mount Olive) ripped an RBI single through the left side to bring in Gale for the game-tying run.

Gutermuth made her way to third on a sacrifice bunt and on the second out by Megan Gorsuch (Mount Airy, MD/South Carroll). Ready to score, Amanda Wilson recorded her second strikeout of the day to force an extra inning.

Wilson collected the win on the hill, giving up one run on five hits and Erin Skinner recorded the save for holding off Gettysburg in the final inning.

In the nightcap, Jamie Ruhling tallied three hits, two RBIs and scored one run to help Ursinus take an early 7-1 lead, while Skinner held off the Bullets late-game rally for a 7-5 victory. The Bears knocked in three hits and took advantage of a Gettysburg error to start the scoring.

Denise Cook singled to second base and scored on a dropped fly ball for the 1-0 lead. The two teams exchanged runs in the second inning, before Ursinus exploded for four runs in the top of the fourth inning for a 6-1 lead. With bases loaded, Reid hit a double deep into left field to send three Bears home.

The Bullets know they are down, but not out. In the seventh inning, Megan Pilarcik (Middletown, MD/Middletown) singled to the left side. Margaret Hallahan (Huntingdon, PA/Huntingdon) stepped up and tripled to the same place to knock in Pilarcik.

Gettysburg kept the ball rolling and Hallahan scored on Dean's single. Dean advanced to second on the throw to home plate and scored on another error. Katie Eiden (Silver Spring, MD/Georgetown Visitation [DC]) advanced to third, once again on the throw. Eiden tallied another run on an error, but the Bullets came up short in the next two outs.

Skinner not only recorded the save in game one, she collected her 12th win for Ursinus. She struck out three in seven innings worked.

Gettysburg returns to action on Tuesday for a CC doubleheader at McDaniel. Game one begins 3 p.m.
