Gettysburg plates six twice for non-conference victory at Villa Julie

STEVENSON, Md.Mike Luteran (Livingston, NJ/Livingston) went 3-for-5, including a triple, to lift Gettysburg to a 14-10 victory in non-conference baseball action on Tuesday at Villa Julie.

Luteran's three-bagger in the eighth inning scored the only two runs of the frame and re-established the lead for the Bullets (13-17-1) at 8-7 en route to the four-run win.

Freshman Tim Andricks (Noank, CT/Fitch) pitched 2 1/3 innings in relief to pick up his first collegiate victory. Andricks notched two strikeouts in his second appearance this spring.

Brian Pernice (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown) and Brendan McDonald (Bennington, VT/Mt. Anthony Union) both had three-hit days, helping Gettysburg tie a season high with 17 base hits. Pernice also had a triple in the contest.

Jim Smith had the only extra-base hit for the Mustangs (8-22) with a three-run home run in the ninth inning.

Trailing 3-0 entering the fifth, the Bullets sent 12 men to the plate and scored six runs to take a 6-3 lead.

With one out, Chase Straub (Perkasie, PA/Pennridge) started the rally, drawing a walk. Pernice followed with a single before Nathan Smith (Milford, NY/Cooperstown) tripled to pull Gettysburg within one.

Ron Lettieri (South Hempstead, NY/South Side) followed with an RBI single of his own to knot the game at 3-all.

Joe Bonyai (Torrington, CT/Hotchkiss School) singled and McDonald walked to load the bases. Luteran also drew the bases on balls to score Lettieri. Ball singled home Bonyai and Ben Carey (Colchester, CT/St. Bernard) recorded an RBI groundout to make it 6-3.

Villa Julie regained the lead with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the frame and two more in the home seventh before Luteran's triple gave the Bullets the lead for good.

Gettysburg added six insurance runs in the top of the ninth before the Mustangs threatened and tallied three times in their final at bat for the final margin.

The Bullets return to action on Wednesday at Susquehanna. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
