Gettysburg sweeps Dickinson in CC action; Gutermuth drives in game-winning run

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Sara Gutermuth (Flanders, NJ/Mount Olive) drove an RBI double deep into centerfield to bring in the game-winning run in game two, leading Gettysburg over Dickinson 11-0 and 3-2 in Centennial Conference (CC) softball action on Tuesday.

Jackie Pareso (Washington, PA/Canevin Catholic) scored the game-winner in the bottom of the ninth inning to help the Bullets (11-3, 4-0 CC) win a pair over the Red Devils (9-12, 4-4 CC) for the fifth straight year and remain undefeated in the CC.

Molly Gale (Franklin, MI/Wylie E. Groves) went a combined 5-for-8 and three RBIs, including a perfect 3-for-3 performance with two runs scored and two RBIs in game one. Adrienne Simmons (Douglassville, PA/Daniel Boone) went 3-for-4 with an RBI in the game-two victory.

Alex Speace tallied three of Dickinson's four hits in game one, while Megan Spears went 1-for-2 with one run scored in the nightcap.

Down 2-1 after six innings, the Red Devil's put a run on the scoreboard in the top of the seventh to knot the game at 2.

With one out, in the next two plate appearances, Jessica Davis and Brittany Zehr both walked. Pinch runner Becky Harker advanced to third on a fielder's choice on the second out and reached home on a Gettysburg error.

Both teams battled through 1.5 innings, but came up empty. Gutermuth saved her only hit of the day for bottom of the ninth inning. With one out, Pareso singled and Gale reached on a fielder's choice, before Gutermuth hit an RBI double to score the game-winning run and capture game two, 3-2.

The Bullets took the early 2-0 lead on four hits in the second inning, including RBI singles from Simmons and Gale to score Meg Gorsuch (Mount Airy, MD/South Carroll) and Megan Dean (Olney, MD/Our Lady of Good Counsel).

Dickinson let Spears handle the third inning, smacking a triple to right field and scoring on a pass ball to get the Red Devil's on the board.

Pareso fired five hitless innings to pick up her fifth win and complete game of the season. She struck out one and gave up four hits in nine innings of work.

The Bullets used back-to-back four-run innings in the opener to pull away from Dickinson 11-0 and end the game in five innings.

Pareso went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Three other Bullets tallied two RBIs each, while all nine starters tallied at least one run.

After getting walked, Katie Eiden (Silver Spring, MD/Georgetown Visitation [DC]) advanced to second on Simmon's sacrifice and to third on a passed ball. Pareso hit an RBI single to bring home Eiden, before scoring on Gale's RBI double to center field for a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.

Gettysburg kept up the hot hitting into the third inning. Margaret Hallahan (Huntingdon, PA/Huntingdon) knocked her first triple of the season that allowed Gale and Megan Pilarcik (Middletown, MD/Middletown) to score. Hallahan tagged home plate on Laura Grieco's (Thornton, PA/West Chester East) RBI line-drive single to left field, before Grieco scored on Eiden's double.

The Bullets put four more up on the scoreboard in the fourth inning to seal the win, 11-0.

Shannon Kiry (Cinnaminson, NJ/ Cinnaminson) posted her third shutout of the season and picked up her fourth win on the mound. In five innings, she allowed four hits and walked one.

As a team, Gettysburg hit .393 on the afternoon, while collecting 24 hits and 13 RBIs.

The Bullets return to action tomorrow at Juniata. The doubleheader is at 3 p.m.
