Franklin & Marshall completes season sweep of Gettysburg

Box Score

LANCASTER, Pa.Eric Milavsky was 2-for-3 and drove in two runs as Franklin & Marshall downed visiting Gettysburg 6-1 in Centennial Conference (CC) baseball action on Friday.

Brian Pernice (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown) extended his current hitting streak to 11 games, leading the Bullets (10-11-1, 3-5 CC) with a 3-for-5 day at the plate. It was also his eighth multiple-hit game of his rookie campaign.

Dave Stahlman went eight innings for the Diplomats (16-9, 8-1 CC), allowing just one earned run on 10 hits. He also struck out five in his third win of the season.

Brian Spicer (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield) lasted just an inning and a third, giving up four earned runs for his second loss.

In a pattern similar to the start of Tuesday's game, Spicer retired the three batters he faced in the first inning before Dan Weber started the home second with a single. After Gary Kruger walked, Scott Haft doubled home Weber for a 1-0 advantage.

Corey Caruthers walked to load the bases and Dan Hanecak grounded into a fielder's choice for his only RBI of the afternoon.

Hanecak stole second before Milavsky singled to clear the bases and give the Diplomats a 4-0 lead.

Spicer gave way to Tobin Whitman (Lyme Center, NH/Hanover), who came on to retire the next two batters.

Gettysburg got one of those runs back in the fourth when Mike Luteran (Livingston, NJ/Livingston) led off with his first of two singles. Pinch-runner Jon Giordano (Massapequa Park, NY/Massapequa) advanced to second on Brendan McDonald's (Bennington, VT/St. Anthony Union) lone base hit. Giordano moved up to third on a fielder's choice before scoring on a Mike Cipolloni (Riegelsville, PA/Germantown Academy) RBI groundout.

Franklin & Marshall added two unearned runs in the bottom of the eighth, in part due to back-to-back Bullet errors.

Whitman went the final 6 2/3 innings, allowing the two unearned runs on six hits with one strikeout.

Gettysburg returns to action on Saturday at home for a doubleheader against Ursinus. Game time is 1 p.m.
