GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Sophomore Kat Poster (Scarsdale, NY/Scarsdale) scored the game-winning goal to put Gettysburg past the University of Mary Washington 1-0 in the first day of women's soccer action at the Gettysburg Players Cup on Friday.
After a scoreless first half, Poster tallied her first collegiate goal in the 51st minute of the contest. On a corner kick, Christina DiTucci (E. Rochester, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) sent a cross into the box where Poster headed the ball past Mary Washington's goalkeeper, Mary Elizabeth Falco, for the only goal of the game.
Jacqui Forsythe tried to tie the game with a fast break up the field with just over a minute remaining, but couldn't connect as goalkeeper Kristin Short (Massapequa, NY/St. Anthony's) was there to grab it.
Gettysburg dominated the game outshooting Mary Washington 12-3. The Bullets also had a 4-2 edge over the Eagles in corner kicks.
Short tallied one save, while Falco gathered a game-high three saves in the effort.
In the early game of the Gettysburg Players Cup, Willamette University defeated John Carroll University 2-0. Brenna Hindman tallied both goals in the winning effort of Willamette.
John Carroll will take on Mary Washington tomorrow at 3:00.
The Bullets return to action on Saturday at home against Willamette in the final game of the Gettysburg Players Cup. Game time is 5:30 p.m.
