Gettysburg garners first season shutout against Haverford, 5-0

Box Score

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Five different players scored to put Gettysburg past Haverford 5-0 in the men’s soccer Centennial Conference opener on Saturday.

It took the Bullets a little over five minutes to get on the board when Pete Kareha (Allentown, Pa./William Allen) netted the game-winner off a pass from Brad Tabor (Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon).

In the 14th minute, the Bullets set up for a corner kick which resulted in another Gettysburg goal for Michael Garea (Maplewood, NJ/Columbia), his first this season.

Garrett Bruno (Harrisburg, PA/Susquehanna Township) connected with Chris Borcik (Reisterstown, MD/Franklin) on a serve in the 17th minute to bringing the score to 3-0. Borcik leads the team with three goals on the season.

Freshman Joe Pascetta (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) netted his first collegiate goal with six minutes to go in the first stanza.

Brandon Bell (Hagerstown, MD/North Hagerstown) tallied his first career goal after getting past the goalkeeper on a rebound off a shot from David Pone (Bordentown, NJ/Bordentown) for the final score of the game in the 83rd minute.

In the second half, despite having the fierce wind to their back, the Fords could not convert possession into scoring opportunities. The Bullets (3-3) dominated the action throughout the game, holding the Fords (0-6) to just four shots, while firing 22.

Gettysburg’s goalkeeper Nick Wells-Bundtzen (Williamstown, MA/Mt. Greylock) garnered his first collegiate shutout. He gathered two saves in the effort, while Haverford’s Tom Reynolds tallied one stop and Alec Aramanda had grabbed three stops in the losing effort.

The win marks the first time Gettysburg shut out an opponent by five or more goals since blanking Lycoming 9-0 in 2001.

The Bullets return to action against Susquehanna at home on Tuesday. Game time is 4:30 p.m.
