GETTYSBURG, Pa. Brad Tabor (Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) netted the game-winning goal to put Gettysburg (5-3, 2-0 CC)
past Swarthmore (4-1-1, 1-1 CC) 1-0 in Centennial Conference
(CC) mens soccer action on Saturday.
Tabor
scored his third goal this season in the 51st
minute off a pass from David Pone (Bordentown,
NJ/Bordentown),
who tallied his team-high seventh assist this year.
The
Bullets dominated the first half, outshooting
the Garnet 9-3, but could not convert on the scoring opportunities.
Pone
led the shooting for the Bullets firing three of his four
shots on goal in the first stanza, but he was unable get
past Swarthmore goalkeeper Nate Shupe, who made four of his five
saves on Pone shots.
After
a scoreless first half, Tabor took the ball off Pones
cross and found the back of the net from the right side
of the box.
The
Garnets best scoring opportunities came late in the
second half when a shot by Alexander Elkins went wide. Less than a minute later, Asturo Wada collected the ball and fired
a shot, but Gettysburg goalkeeper
Nick Wells-Bundtzen
(Williamstown, MA/Mt. Greylock) was there
to deflect it away.
The
Bullets outshot the Garnet 15-8 and had a 7-5 edge in corner kicks.
Wells-Bundtzen
tallied three saves in the winning effort, while Shupe
collected five stops.
Gettysburg returns to action at Messiah on Wednesday. Game time 7 p.m.
