to lead No. 9 Messiah past Gettysburg 2-1 in non-conference mens
soccer action on Wednesday.
Tim Stello put the Falcons on the board just under eight minutes
into the first half off an assist from Bryan
Mohney, giving Messiah
a lead that it would never surrender.
McClellan
netted a goal that proved to be the eventual game-winner
at 47:22 off a pass from Andre Burckhart
to make it, 2-0. Gettysburgs
Brad Tabor (Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) found the back of the net for the Bullets
in the 83rd minute, connecting with senior Mike Leader (Hershey,
PA/Hershey).
The goal was Tabors team-high fifth this season.
Less
than a minute later, David Pone (Bordentown, NJ/Bordentown)
had an opportunity to tie the game, but his shot was saved
by Messiahs goalkeeper Dustin
Shambach - his only save
of the contest.
Gettysburg goalkeeper Nick
Wells-Bundtzen (Williamstown,
MA/Mt.
Greylock)
made four saves in the losing effort.
Messiah
outshot the Bullets 11-2 and also
had a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.
Gettysburg returns to action at Ursinus
on Saturday. Game time 2 p.m.
