GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Junior Jon Ruiz netted the game-winning goal to put Eastern (2-0) past Gettysburg, 1-0, in its home opener today in men’s soccer action.

Held to just two shots in the first half, the Bullets found themselves gaining momentum in the beginning of the second half but were unable to convert on the opportunities.

Ruiz scored the lone goal of the game late in the second half unassisted amidst a scramble in front of the net. This marks the second consecutive year that Ruiz has scored the game-winner against Gettysburg. 

Bullet senior Andrew Maynard (Reading, PA/Exeter) and freshmen Brad Tabor (Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) led the team with two shots, while Eastern outshot Gettysburg 11-8.

In goal, Nick Well-Bundtzen (Williamstown, MA/Mt. Greylock) tallied five saves, while Brandon Ziegler gathered all four stops for the Eagles in the second stanza.

The Bullets return to action on Tuesday at Frostburg. Game time is 5 p.m.
